Experience some of World Cafe Live’s upcoming programming at Community Open House

Posted on 09 November 2022 by WestPhillyLocal.com

Philly’s non-profit music venue World Cafe Live is inviting local community members – parents, students, and patrons – as well as fans of music everywhere, to join them on Saturday, Nov. 12 and experience a selection of WCL’s upcoming programming.

This event will be completely free to the public, fit for everyone! At 10:30 a.m., WCL’s Artistic Director of Education & Engagement, Josh Campbell, will host a Coffee & Conversation where he’ll talk about what his organization has been building for its guests and community.

At 11:00 a.m., Guachinangos will present one of WCL’s flagship Bridge Sessions, diving into son jarocho and cumbia traditions in the venue’s legendary Music Hall. This will transition directly to an interactive songwriting workshop with a WCL teaching artist, so attendees are encouraged to stick around for the fun. Admission will be on a first come, first served basis and RSVP is required (click here to register).

“We pride ourselves on being a place where artistry meets [social] impact and are hoping to expand this impact with an upcoming Community Open House on November 12th, 2022,” writes Jacinda Arellano, Program Manager.

West Philly businesses/venues that require proof of COVID vaccination

Posted on 08 September 2021 by WestPhillyLocal.com

As the Delta variant began spreading earlier this summer, some Philadelphia area businesses, mostly restaurants, started requiring proof of COVID vaccination for entry. Other businesses, who do not require proof of vaccination, have to ask their customers and staff to mask up, according to updated citywide rules. In West Philly, the following businesses and event organizers are currently requiring proof of vaccination (and some of them masks, too):

World Cafe Live is reopening its indoor space at 30th and Walnut for in-person events on September 29th after hosting events online for more than a year. The popular West Philly music venue has recently posted an update on its COVID-19 policy, which now includes proof of vaccination:

“Until further notice, all guests will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for entry to World Cafe Live. Negative tests will not be accepted at this time.” Continue Reading

Concert tickets in twelve eggs – World Cafe Live’s Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday

Posted on 04 April 2012 by WPL

It’s not only kids who will get a chance to have fun this Easter. Older folks are invited to hit the streets of Philadelphia in a city-wide Easter egg hunt organized by World Cafe Live. The event will be held on Saturday, April 7.

Here’s how it works: Twelve plastic Easter eggs will be laid at various locations throughout the city, each containing a pair of tickets to select upcoming performances. Beginning at Noon, World Cafe Live will Facebook and tweet clues and riddles that lead to each egg (make sure to “Like” World Cafe Live’s page on Facebook and follow @worldcafelive on Twitter).

If you find an egg, claim it on Facebook or @reply WCL on Twitter so other hunters can move onto the next clue.

Twelve eggs will be filled with a pair of one of the following performances:

Railroad Earth on Friday, April 13
Railroad Earth on Saturday, April 14
Amy Ray (of Indigo Girls) on Tuesday, April 17
Green River Ordinance on Sunday, April 27
Sam Sparro on Monday, April 23
Bowling For Soup on Wednesday, April 25
Brendan Benson with Young Hines on Thursday, May 3
ALO on Friday, May 11
William Beckett (formerly of The Academy Is…) on Monday, May 14
Ruder Than You on Saturday, May 26
Rhett Miller on Tuesday, June 5
Matthew Sweet (on Girlfriend Tour) on Friday, June 8

Sounds like fun, so grab your running shoes, your friends and your phone (or a map). For more details, check out the event’s Facebook page.
