Outdoor movies return to Clark Park this Friday

The popular free outdoor movie screening series, Movies in Clark Park, is set to return Friday, Aug. 4, to the “Bowl” at 43rd and Chester.

The event organizer, University City District (UCD), in partnership with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Friends of Clark Park, and TD Bank, will present some classics as well as more recent fan favorites. As always, the event is held every Friday in August, in fair weather only, with some rain dates reserved for September.

The series will kick off this Friday with an Indiana Jones flick – Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). Here’s the schedule for the rest of the month:

August 11: Encanto

August 18: King Richard

August 25: Top Gun: Maverick

September 15: Rain date if needed

Music Movies in Clark Park every Friday in August

University City District (UCD), in partnership with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and Friends of Clark Park, is bringing back a popular summer event – free outdoor movies in Clark Park every Friday night in August! This year, UCD will present four Music Movies, with great music at their center (see the schedule below).

All movies are screened at dusk (after 8 p.m.), in fair weather only (don’t forget to bring your blanket or chair). The event may also be postponed if the ground is too wet. Friday, Sept. 9 has been reserved as a rain date to screen one film.

August 5: Summer of Soul (2021)
August 12: Wayne’s World (1992)
August 19: Soul (2020)
August 26: West Side Story (2021)
September 9: Rain Date

University City District to bring back popular summer events

University City District has announced the return of its popular summer events, most of which were not held during the past two years due to the pandemic.

From the Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll to Movies in Clark Park, here’s what’s happening in the district this summer. Also, check out events and activities at The Porch at 30th Street Station and Trolley Portal Gardens (40th and Woodland).

The Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll will return on Thursday, June 16 and Thursday, Sept. 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. During this unique event, neighborhood businesses and community vendors will present $1, $3, and $5 bargains – everything from bites from signature restaurants to pet supplies to theater tickets and much more. Clark Park Movie Nights to kick off with screening of “Black Panther” and COVID vaccine clinic (updated)

The University City District’s free outdoor movie screening series is returning this Friday (Aug. 6) to Clark Park. The series will kick off with a screening of “Black Panther” at Clark Park’s “Bowl” near 45th and Chester. The opening night will also feature a free COVID vaccine clinic presented by Penn Medicine.

The vaccine clinic will be held from 6-8 p.m.. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available for residents ages 12 and older, and the first 60 people who receive their doses will receive a $25 gift card to Renata’s Kitchen or Booker’s. Movies in Clark Park return in August (Update: special screening on Friday, Sept. 20)

UPDATE (9/19/2019): Before saying goodbye to summer 2019, enjoy this Friday, Sept. 20 a free movie in Clark Park – a rescheduled screening of Creed II. Please bring your blankets and chairs. Also enjoy food from Philly Goodfellas, Foolish Waffles, and ICE CAVE. The film will begin at 7:30 p.m. to accommodate the earlier sunset time. Please note: This film is rated PG-13 and features swearing, intense scenes of boxing violence, and mild sensuality, and might not be appropriate for young children.

August 7, 2019: Free outdoor movies are returning to Clark Park at 43rd and Chester this week: University City District, in partnership with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and Friends of Clark Park, are set to present four great films every Friday night through August 30th.

Films will be shown at sundown in fair weather. A rain date of September 20th has been reserved for up to one film postponed due to inclement weather.

Please bring your chair or blanket for the films. Food and dessert will be offered starting at 6 p.m. from a rotating list of vendors. Here’s this year’s schedule:

‘Movies in Clark Park’ kicks off Friday at 43rd and Chester (updated)

Movies in Clark Park will return Friday, Aug. 10 for its fifth season. University City District is partnering with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Friends of Clark Park, and local organizations and food trucks to present four Fridays of free outdoor film screenings and other fun activities! Films will be projected on a giant screen at the park at 43rd and Chester Ave for the entire family to enjoy.

The event begins at 7 p.m., and movies will start shortly after 8 p.m. right after the sunset.  Continue Reading
