SEPTA’s trolley tunnel will be closed for repairs for four upcoming weekends.

West Philadelphia commuters who rely on SEPTA’s T lines (T1, T2, T3, T4, and T 5) will need to adjust their weekend travel plans. SEPTA has announced that the underground trolley tunnel will close for four upcoming weekends, requiring full surface busing across all five routes.

Tunnel closures will begin at 2 a.m. on Saturdays, with a gradual transition to complete bus service overnight. All five lines will operate entirely as buses from 5 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday on the following weekends:

A key connection between West Philly and Center City will be shut down for vehicular traffic starting Monday, Aug. 24, as PennDOT begins a major reconstruction of the Market Street Bridge.

Following months of community rallies and sustained advocacy from grassroots organizers, Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, and other local elected officials, Mayor Cherelle Parker’s administration has officially announced a commitment to help save 925 affordable rental units across West and Southwest Philadelphia.

In a formal statement released on Tuesday, Aug. 11, Mayor Parker confirmed that the City of Philadelphia will allocate funding and work alongside housing leaders to preserve the Neighborhood Restorations portfolio, whose expiring tax-credit subsidies had threatened to displace up to 3,000 residents.

The release coincided with a demonstration outside City Hall organized by the OnePA Neighborhood Restorations Tenant Committee, residents, and local elected officials pushing for city intervention.

The City’s Office of Transportation & Infrastructure Systems (OTIS) and the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) have officially expanded automated speed enforcement (ASE) to Route 13, which runs through West Philadelphia along Baltimore Avenue. The Friends of Clark Park and their partners are continuing the park’s playground redesign process, which kicked off earlier this year. This project marks Phase 1 of the park’s broader Master Plan, shaped by extensive community feedback. Supported by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and University City District, the initiative aims to create a modernized, accessible space with an emphasis on nature-based and inclusive design for neighborhood families.

This Monday, Aug. 10, community members are invited to join an online meeting to learn about the project’s progress and review an initial conceptual design from design firms Hinge Collective and Studio Ludo.

Shakespeare in Clark Park (SCP) is returning for its 21st season with an inventive, boundary-pushing production of Hamlet. Presented in creative partnership with Revolution Shakespeare, this free outdoor show re-envisions one of theater’s most enduring tragedies through a highly collaborative, contemporary lens.

The production will run nightly from Wednesday, July 29 through Sunday, August 2 at 7 p.m. in the Bowl at Clark Park (45th and Chester).
