This sweet young Mastiff-Pit mix, captured Friday, after he’d been wandering the Kingsessing area for two weeks, is in immediate need of a foster home. He’s currently at ACCT shelter, and his 48-hr wait period is up today (Sunday, Jan. 15). He has no ID/chip and has not been claimed. The shelter, as always, is full, and the folks there say he is pretty down and they are anxious for him to be placed in foster care. His rescuer spent quite a bit of time with him on Friday and reports that he is an unbelievably good tempered, non-aggressive dog, and is either intimidated by cats or friendly with them. He showed no aggressive tendencies from the temperament tests he did after he was captured. He was introduced to some kids at the shelter on Friday and was very tolerant of them pulling on his tail and ears, prodding, etc.

He is thought to be about a year old, is unfixed (but will be fixed by ACCT and vaccinated if foster home is secured).

This week’s featured dog is Mojo, a 10-month-old Labrador Retriever mix. Mojo is available for adoption through Operation Ava.

Mojo is a really sweet and fun pup who loves to play the day away! He is an extremely energetic dog who enjoys his favorite stick and loves to play fetch and tag (here‘s a video of Mojo playing). He is very smart and would do well with some obedience training but he is very sweet and great with children. He would be ideal in a home with space to play or at least a family that gives him lots of exercise.

This week’s featured cat is O’Malley. O’Malley was living as a Philadelphia street cat, but his affectionate personality makes everyone think that he was somebody’s pet in a former life. As luck would have it, he found his way into the neighborhood of a City Kitties volunteer. After patiently waiting for weeks until a foster home was available, O’Malley finally got his turn for the opportunity to find a forever home.

He initially didn’t know what to make of life indoors, but it was only a matter of time before he was right at home. This former tough alley cat can now be found playing with toy mice, rolling over for belly rubs, and grooming his foster brother, Tiny Tim. O’Malley loves attention and does not discriminate when it comes to the source. He is extremely talkative, ensuring that you haven’t forgotten about him with his loud and unique “meow.”

O’Malley is an extremely laid-back, low-maintenance guy. He tolerates the constant pestering and teething of Tiny Tim and regularly allows him to sneak a few licks of Fancy Feast from his plate at mealtime. He even politely waits until Tiny Tim walks away from the kitten food before moving in for a chance at some leftovers.

O’Malley will likely be a perfect fit for any type of household whether as an only kitty or with some 4-legged siblings. He is adorably gentle with kittens and seems to enjoy ‘fatherhood.’ He has not had the opportunity to interact with young children or dogs, but he should not have issues with either.

O’Malley is about 2-3 years old, neutered, FIV/FeLV negative, FVRCP and rabies vaccinated, received a fecal exam to test for parasites, uses the litterbox, and was treated for fleas and parasites as needed.

Honey is a sweet girl looking for nothing but love. She was surrendered by her owner because she wasn’t able to feed her large litter of puppies anymore, it looks like she has had many litters.

Honey was very depressed the first few days she was at the shelter but has really come out of her shell after spending time with her Pen Pals and other volunteers/staff. She really enjoys just being able to be a dog. Honey doesn’t seem to know how to play with toys but gets very excited and prances around when she is taken outside. Her Pen Pals are working on teaching her how to play and some basic commands. She likes to be in your lap and just be pet and hugged.

Honey’s perfect match would be someone who will spoil her rotten for the rest of her life, snuggle up on the couch with her and take her for leisurely walks. We haven’t featured cats available for adoption for a couple of weeks, so this week we are presenting two of them.

Howard ended up in animal control when his owner surrendered him. He was 18 lbs at intake, but after two months in the stressful shelter environment, he lost 4 pounds, more than 20% of his body weight! Once he was in a comfortable foster environment, Howie’s appetite came back, and he looks great! He loves to be around people and wants to follow his foster mom everywhere. He is a little nervous around new kitties, but never aggressive – he just needs some time to adjust to them. Howard loves to curl up next to his people and purr, and purr and purr. If you sit down with him for a minute, Howie will rub against you, flop down, and roll over for pets. He is such a sweet guy! Howard would prefer a home without a dog, but he should do really well with kids, given his gentle nature. Please give this big boy the forever home he deserves!

Jenni was rescued form a junkyard along with her rambunctious kittens during an early snowstorm. She will start to purr just by talking to her. When you actually pet her, look out! She is a true lap cat. She loves to get on laps and be petted and just purr away. Jenni doesn’t really play with other cats, but she does like to play with toys, preferably ones with bells, whistles, rattles, etc. She isn’t a fan of loud noises or boisterous households, so she would do well in a quiet home by herself or with another laid back kitty.

“This guy is hanging out on my back steps at 4301 Larchwood. Purple collar but no tag. It’s in an enclosed back hard, but the back gate is open. He/she may not be lost, but I’ve never seen it before, and it’s not motivated to go anywhere.”
