This week’s featured cat is Tessa. She is a perfect starter cat. She is happy-go-lucky and laid back. She seeks out the company of people and loves to be stroked, but she does not demand constant attention. She is happy to lay nearby while her family reads, plays, cooks or watches TV. Because Tessa was found in an abandoned lot as a skinny, friendly mama with six kittens, she now loves to eat and sports a well-padded figure. Although Tessa is no longer a kitten, she is still playful and enjoys toys. She gets along with all the cats in her foster home, though she has not had any exposure to dogs.
All of Tessa’s kittens have been adopted except Purple. Purple, who is about 6 months old, is a bit shy. When she was first found she hid most of the time. But now, like her mom, she likes to be around people and welcomes petting and playing. She will need a bit of extra patience and TLC from her adoptive family.
Tessa and Purple are both spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, FIV/FeLV negative, flea treated, microchipped and ready for loving homes! Anyone willing to adopt both mom & daughter will be offered a reduced adoption fee. Please contact projectmeowadoptions [at] gmail.com. If you want to meet Tessa, she’s currently at Baltimore Pet Shoppe (4532 Baltimore Ave).

A neighbor is looking for her cat that went missing two days ago:
“Male Snow Shoe Siamese cat, light grey and white with a half mustache and bright blue eyes…. Goes by the name of Luchie. Kind of a big guy and missing some teeth, very food motivated. Friendly but can also be shy, likes to hide in boxes and small spaces and meows a lot, a very distinct meow. Reward if found. Please call 203 273 5300. Last seen between Warrington and Springfield on 50th St.”

This came from a neighbor who lives near 50th and Catharine Sts.
“I found a dog today (at 11 a.m.) running down the street near my house at 50th and Catharine St. No collar, just a choke chain. The dog is male, intact, brindle and white possibly American Bulldog or Boxer mix. Very sweet and knows some commands. I walked it around the neighborhood, but no one seemed to recognize him.
I took him to ACCT at 111 W. Hunting Park Ave. Philadelphia – no microchip. Because I already have 3 dogs at home, I couldn’t keep him and he’s now at ACCT under a 48-hour stray hold. If this is your dog, his number at the shelter is: A15383449. You can also call 267-385-3800 extension 0 to speak with someone.
If this is NOT your dog, but you’re interested – he’s amazing. Well-behaved and rides very well in the car, he’d be a great addition to any household. He will be up for adoption after his 48-hour stray hold is finished on Thursday 2/9/12.”

A reader found an all black short haired female cat on Thursday (Feb. 2) night at 46th and Springfield. She is small and lightweight, very quiet and well behaved, with golden eyes. The cat was wearing a pink collar so it looks like she belongs to someone or did at some point.
If you are missing this lovely kitty, please email to: sydneypz [at] gmail.com.

Betty is an 8-year-old Doberman Pinscher/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was found wandering the streets of Philly and brought to ACCT. Since Betty is in such great shape, aside from some wear and tear caused by living on the streets, it is believed she once had a place to call home. However, no one ever came looking for her, so she needs to move on to a new family.
The problem for Betty is that the shelter is once again full, so to make room for the new arrivals, choices have to be made and that does not give the older, longer term, or sick animals much of a chance. So, sadly, Betty, who now has a cold, does not have much more time to wait for that special someone to walk through the door and totally fall in love with her.
Betty loves attention, belly rubs, and has no issues with basic or advanced handling. She also has no food issues. She showed no interest in the cats at the shelter, but she should be the only dog in the home. Please consider saving Betty Spaghetti’s life by fostering or adopting. Her adoption fee is only $25 which includes spay, shots, and microchip. Please share for Betty because sharing saves lives. Please don’t delay.
Let’s make today Betty’s last day living at the shelter, not her last day of life, by finding her a great forever home where she will be loved and happy for the rest of her days.
Betty is located at ACCT, 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. Adoption hours are 1-8 Monday through Friday and 10-5 on weekends. If you are interested in fostering, please contact nsmith [at] pspca.org or jsweeney [at] pspca.org.
