Adopt-a-Pet: Kahuna

June 1, 2011

Adoptable dog Kahuna
Kahuna

Today’s pet is Kahuna. He is currently living at the ACCT shelter.

Kahuna is a mostly white, 3-5 year old boy with some brindle patches, and a cute little brown spot above his eye. He’s a medium sized dog.

He loves to play with toys – rope toys, squeaky toys, and kongs. Another great thing about him is that he loves being around people.

Kahuna has a pen pal who is teaching him lots of stuff. He’s learning commands, which he’s doing very well with because he’s very smart. His pen pal is also teaching him to walk like a gentleman on the leash by using an Easy Walk Harness. Kahuna walks pretty well now, but can get a little excited when he sees people or other dogs.

Kahuna loves other dogs so if you want to see him you can bring your dogs with you. He is up to date on all of his shots. He is also microchipped and scheduled to be neutered. In other words: he is ready to go home with you.

If you’d like to meet Kahuna, stop by 111 W. Hunting Park Ave, walk straight to Adoptions (or Lifesaving, if you’d like to foster him). For more information call 267-385-3800 or email: acctadoptions [at] pspca.org

If you cannot adopt him permanently but would like to help anyways, you can consider fostering Kahuna until he finds his happy ending. Fostering will save not only this dog’s life but also the life of the dog that would move into Kahuna’s kennel at ACCT.

Sweet Ruby gets a home

June 1, 2011

pets
Alon Abramson and a happy Ruby.

Our first Adopt-a-Pet, a sweet pit bull mix Ruby, has found a forever home. West Philly resident Alon Abramson, who organizes a local runners group called West Philly Runners, adopted Ruby last week after reading about her here. He says Ruby will be joining him on runs around the neighborhoods.

Reader Lulu Todorov, who does volunteer work for the PSPCA’s Animal Care and Control Team, was a great advocate for Ruby. Abramson wrote us that her description of Ruby “was really accurate and helped me with the selection.”

Adopt-a-Pet runs twice weekly, with a cat on Monday and a dog on Wednesday. This week’s cat is Demona and the pooch will be up later today.

Adopt-a-Pet: Demona

May 31, 2011

Demona = cat available for adoption
Demona

Today’s pet is Demona.

Demona is a 6 year-old indoor cat. Her owner is moving soon and looking for a new home for her cat.

Demona likes scratches behind the ears, lazy afternoons in the sun, gourmet catnip and playing hide and seek between the shower curtains. Dislikes: other cats, dogs and sitting on laps.

Demona needs to find an owner who will give her the attention she needs to deal with her weight problem. She cannot be around other cats, as she might eat all of the food.

To set up a meeting with Demona, please contact her owner at demonathecat [at] gmail.com

Adopt-a-Pet: Willie

May 25, 2011

Today’s pet is Willie, a very sweet young male pitbull mix (1-2 yrs).

Willie needs a home of his own
Willie

Willie gets along very well with other dogs and even cats. He is neutered, up to date with his vaccinations, dewormed and microchipped.

Willie is fully housetrained and crate trained. He does need more work with jumping up on people when he’s excited and pulling during walks. He’s a smart, responsive boy who is worth the effort of the fine tuning he needs with training. Willie would do best in a home without children.

Willie is currently in foster care through PAWS and urgently needs a permanent home.

If you’re interested in setting up a meeting with this charming fellow call Jessica Watson at 267-912-5517 or email: sadiedoogan [at] yahoo.com

Adopt-a-Pet: Danny

May 23, 2011

Danny the Cat
Danny

Danny is a beautiful 2-year-old orange tabby cat who badly needs a home. He is neutered, housebroken, vaccinated, FELV/FIV negative, and up-to-date on flea-preventive medications. Here’s how Danny would describe himself if only he could talk:

Big people, little people, bring ’em on! I’ll love on them all. I’m a lean 15 pounds, sort of a living teddy bear! Go ahead, tote me around! I LOVE to be picked up and held.
I like to play with other cats, but they have to be able to handle a big boy like
me. Some cats just don’t get that I just want to play, but I’m not a meanie, just a
frisky young cat. Got a feather wand, a few catnip mice? Any kids to play with me?
Oh, boy, we could be a match made in heaven I’m a great kid entertainer.
I don’t like those slobbery things also known as dogs. I know I should, but I just
can’t bring myself to be around them. Could we still be friends anyway? I want so
badly to have a home of my own!

Stop by the Baltimore Pet Shoppe (4532 Baltimore Ave.) to meet this super great kitty or email: projectmeowadoptions [at] gmail.com

Pitbull-type dog found near 50th and Locust

May 20, 2011

This came from our reader Kathleen Turner:

Dog Found, 50th and Locust, 5/19 at about 9:30. She’s a tan pit bull-type dog, with white markings and a very friendly disposition — definitely NOT an aggressive dog. She was wearing a chain collar with a leash attached, but no tags.

We walked around the neighborhood for awhile but no one seemed to be out looking for her.

If you think you might know her or her owner, please contact me by email (khturner32 [at] gmail.com), or call 215-834-1034.

We have 4 cats in the house and definitely cannot keep her, so I’d like to find her owner as quickly as possible!
