Historic Calvary Center building gets new HVAC system thanks to community support

January 10, 2024

Here’s some great news for the old Calvary Church building, which has been home to many local community and arts organizations over the last few decades. As a result of the fundraising efforts supported by the community, a new, much-needed HVAC system has finally been installed and will provide heating and air-conditioning at this historic building.

The new HVAC system was installed at the end of last month and has been working well, according to Calvary Center’s social media posts.

The fundraiser was announced last summer with a goal to match a $100,000 grant from the National Fund for Sacred Places.

Prior to the installation of the new HVAC system the building had utilized an old boiler system for years and was in danger of having no heat this winter. “Efficient heating and cooling is an essential part of making sure our community is comfortable, safe, and thriving,” said Gay Carducci-Kuhn, Calvary Center Board member and Curio Theatre Company managing director.

Just a reminder that Calvary Center, located at 48th and Baltimore, is home to such organizations as Calvary United Methodist Church, Curio Theatre Company, Cedar Park Neighbors, Kol Tzedek Synagogue, West Philadelphia Mennonite Fellowship, Camp Sojourner, and more. The current version of the building dates back to 1907. Visit https://calvary-center.org for more information.
