Calvary Center to hold community Meet-and-Greet with Board members

December 4, 2023

The Calvary Center for Culture and Community (CCCC), a nonprofit created by Calvary United Methodist Church in 2000 to manage staffing, space rental and fundraising related to the Calvary building, is in the process of restructuring its governance, organizational structure, and business model. The organization is hosting an informal meet-and-greet with current CCCC Board members, Calvary United Methodist Church leadership and other community stakeholders, on Monday, Dec. 11, 5-6 p.m.

The purpose of the gathering is three-fold:

1. To provide important updates on the Calvary building, including plans to restructure the CCCC Board to provide for broader community representation and more effective management and maintenance.

2. To encourage networking and relationship-building in support of Calvary’s ongoing function as a critical center of community activity.

3. To invite your consideration as to how you (and/or your office/organization) might be involved in or otherwise support the CCCC’s mission going forward.

The CCCC is currently working toward hiring an interim executive director to guide the restructuring process toward a “more sustainable model for building oversight, organizational staffing, etc.”

Calvary Center has served as home to many community organizations and groups and provided space to numerous community and arts events over these years.

“The Calvary Center for Culture and Community’s primary purpose is to foster community engagement in and beyond the neighborhoods of West and Southwest Philadelphia, by preserving the historic Calvary church building and managing within it a sustainable, accessible center for diverse community activity,” according to Sky Coleman, Director of Operations.

Another important objective is to “ensure consistent maintenance of both the interior and exterior of the historic Calvary United Methodist Church building and property, while sustaining its historical, cultural, and architectural character and projecting a positive presence along the Baltimore Avenue corridor.”

Light refreshments will be provided at the event. Please RSVP by Friday, Dec. 8 to office@calvary-center.org or 215-452-9666.
