Since the beginning of the month, construction crews have worked on the restoration of high-need sections of paved roadways at The Woodlands cemetery. To commemorate the completion of this work, The Woodlands is holding a celebration on Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the front gates of the cemetery at 40th and Woodland (see more info below).

The roads were restored thanks to a $99,500 grant awarded to the historic Woodlands grounds to help with infrastructure improvements. State Representative Rick Krajewski worked with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to secure the grant.

The Woodlands welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually, and the paved roads are used daily by neighborhood residents on foot, bike, wheelchair, and car. The newly paved roadway sections, completed by Mayfield Site Contractors Inc., provide a safer environment for the community to use for recreation while the gates are open, daily from dawn until dusk.

Tuesday’s celebration is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to bring their favorite forms of wheeled transportation to the “Road Repair Revelry.” Staff from The Woodlands will share information about the active cemetery and nonprofit, including ongoing capital projects. Guests can enjoy local mini popsicles from Lil Pop Shop (available while they last.)
