Self-service pet washing space proposed at 47th and Baltimore

September 17, 2018

A monthly Cedar Park zoning meeting will get underway on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Calvary Center for Culture and Community (48th and Baltimore). One of the development projects to be discussed at the meeting is a proposal for a self-service pet washing space at 806 S. 47th Street, in the space formerly occupied by Goffredo Plumbing (see Google map above).

The new business requires a special exception for the first-floor commercial space in the three-story mixed use building because it’s an “animal service.” The residential use above will remain unchanged. Stay tuned for more information.

More details about tomorrow’s meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., is available here.

This is an awesome idea! It’s so inclusive and useful as a business, and it’s not another food establishment or the usual thing you see

But what about the smell? It’s a great idea, but I wouldn’t want to live above that type of business.

That would be great. Much needed in this area, along with a doggy daycare.

    What happened to Goffredo’s?!

the beauty is that you don’t have to live above there if you don’t want to! property owner’s risk. hopefully this sails through the approval process.

West Philly, perfect is the enemy of the good.

Smell? Restaurant or not? Inclusive? Sheesh, who cares (and there’s nothing inclusive about dog businesses! they are for dog owners, only…).

Just about anything is better than nothing. Goffredo’s has seemed functionally dead for years and years.

A good pedestrian fabric helps the walkability and safety of the neighborhood, and we need the tax base.

We folks in West Philly sure like to wait around far too long for a perfect, and we lose out on “good enough” progress.

I would rather have a “good enough” neighborhood that actually exists, versus a perfect idea of a neighborhood that doesn’t exist.

Remember – Dock Street almost didn’t open due to complaints by the church folks who thought it would encourage drunks on the street. That’s perfect being the enemy of the good.

Any info on what’s going in around the corner where Abby’s Desert Lounge used to be? There’s new signage that says “MEDMER” [sic] and I have no idea what that could be.
PS- Goffredo’s is still in operation.

Kaffa Crossing II is going into 4704 Baltimore and went through its Health Inspection last month but from the signage I guess they’re publicly calling it Medmer. They have a liquor license – Abby’s old one, I think – but it’s still in Safekeeping status.
