car accident

Police inspect one of the two vehicles involved in an accident this evening near 46th and Hazel.

A collision near the intersection of Hazel Avenue and 46th Street was the result of a driver trying to elude police, an officer at the scene said.

The accident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on Saturday. A police officer at the scene said the driver of one car “panicked” when he saw a police car, sped up and collided with another car. The officer said there were no serious injuries.

Witnesses said that one person fled the car being chased and another was arrested. We’ll pass along more information as we get it.

Actually two cars where hit (both parked at the time I think) and badly damaged and a big chunk was also taken out of the curb on the E. side of 46th near Hazel.

Noticing a lot of police activity tonight in general. Saw cruisers on 46 earlier than this accident (4 pm?), someone pulled over at 46 and Springfield around 8:30, and just now a whole group of cruisers at 50 and Spruce as well as more cruisers on 46 near Cedar.

Any info? Nothing seems especially criminal but these are more traffic stops than I’ve seen over the last couple years combined. Perhaps the multiple recent incidents with peds and bikes have convinced PPD to take an interest?

The police could have been looking for the suspect who fled the accident. They were driving a stolen vehicle and had guns in the trunk. They arrested one and were probably intents on finding the other.
