Oooooo Baby Baby!: Salt-N-Pepa, MC Lyte to headline annual N2N Festival in Cedar Park

August 28, 2019

West Philly community members will have a chance to see legendary female rap and hip-hop group Salt-N-Pepa perform at the annual Neighborhood-to-Neighborhood (N2N) Festival. This year’s festival celebrates women in hip-hop and will take place at 50th and Baltimore next Saturday, Sept. 7.

Salt-N-Pepa, who have broken barriers and opened doors that were once closed to women in hip-hop, are set to headline the 2019 N2N Festival, performing their hit songs. MC Lyte, one of hip-hop’s pioneer feminists, and Angie Stone who rose to fame as member of the hip hop trio The Sequence before starting her solo career are also performing. There will also be live performances by local Philadelphia artists.

The free festival will be hosted by legendary radio host Lady B from Classix 107.9 FM, and comedian, Skeet. More than 5,000 people from across the region will enjoy the free festival throughout the day.

The N2N Festival, organized by State Senator Anthony Hardy Williams, began in 1989 as a community cookout and expanded over the years into a major family festival. After a six-year hiatus, N2N made a triumphant return in 2016 with a free concert from Grammy and Oscar-Winning rapper, actor and activist Common. In 2017, the festival held a free Prince tribute concert featuring live performances by Sheila E., Morris Day, and the Time, Questlove, and PnB Rock. Last year, the N2N Festival held an Aretha Franklin tribute concert.

In addition to a free concert, there will be free food, health screenings, a variety of craft and food vendors, community resource tables, a children’s zone with rides, games, prizes and face painting and a senior tent with activities, resources and bingo.

The festival will be held from 12 to 8 p.m. with the following schedule:

12:00 p.m.: Festival opens with DJ Marty Geez & performances by local artists

2:00 p.m.: Opening ceremony

3:00 p.m.: Local artists perform

4:00 p.m.: MC Lyte

5:00 p.m.: Angie Stone

6:30 p.m.: Salt-N-Pepa
