Helping The Woodlands get even better

April 11, 2014

WoodlandssurveyDo you visit The Woodlands whether it is for jogging, dog walking, nature or leisurely walks or other activities? Now you can be part of the Woodlands planning and have an impact on the future of this beautiful historical site.

The people involved with preservation and development of the Woodlands cemetery and mansion would like to hear from you. They have prepared a community survey asking about your use of The Woodlands as well as about your favorite places there. The information gathered will help make improvements to the site “that align with how our community enjoys the space.”

To fill out the survey, click here.

This summer, on June 5, The Woodlands is hosting the 3rd Annual Benefit, with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music and more. The benefit guests will get a chance to kick off the fully-funded $1 million project to preserve the Cryptoporticus (a covered gallery) and North Terrace, and peek into the basement servant’s quarters. For more information, visit The Woodlands website.

#1 stop allowing people to let their dogs run off leash in the cemetery. It is too dangerous to go for a a walk in the cemetery now, because there is always the danger of being attacked by dogs.

Really? ATTACKED by dogs? I find this hard to believe. Barked at? Sure. There’s worse things that can happen.

  3. sue Says:

yeah steve, geez, stay home or file a lawsuit. but stop complaining.

  4. sara Says:

I agree with Steve. Leash laws are around for a reason. I walk my leashed dog at The Woodlands occasionally but there is always a worry because people let their dogs off leash and they have absolutely no recall. Have fun with your pups but please keep them on leash so it’s safe for everyone.

As a dog owner I completely agree. I fear taking my dog there anymore because there are always dogs off-leash with no recall. My dog does not like to be approached by off leash dogs when she is on leash as she was attacked by an off-leash dog in Clark Park. If you cannot keep your dog from approaching strange dogs that are on-leash and minding their own business please keep them on-leash. You are taking away other peoples (and dogs!) ability to share in a beautiful spot open to the public.

At The Woodlands, we have a strict leash policy. Our rules (posted at the front entrance and on our website) state that we do not allow any off-leash dogs. With a large site and a small staff, we have a lot of problems policing this, and we rely on and encourage help from our visitors in telling others that off-leash dogs are not welcome.

Please feel free to contact us with your concerns at info@woodlandsphila.org.
