Walnut Hill Playground renovation project gets a boost from Target, Do Moore Good, Green City Works

Here’s an update on the Walnut Hill Playground improvement project, which broke ground last spring at 47th and Sansom.

Over the weekend, volunteers from Target, University City District, Do Moore Good, Green City Works, the Walnut Hill Community Association, and other community partners joined forces to help beautify the playground and nearby Sansom Street Garden.

The volunteers helped install new playground amenities, mulch and weed garden beds, and paint the Sansom Street Garden fence across from the playground. The effort brought together local organizations and volunteers to support a community space used by Walnut Hill families and residents.

Walnut Hill Playground renovation update: New play surface to be installed thanks to $25,000 grant

Here’s some great news on the Walnut Hill Community Playground renovation project, which broke ground last spring at 47th and Sansom.

The University City District (UCD), which is leading the project along with community partners, has received additional funding which will help move the project forward. The McClean Contributionship recently provided a $25,000 grant which will help UCD’s landscaping enterprise, Green City Works, install a new poured rubber play surface (see rendering image above). The new surface ensures play safety by reducing current tripping hazards and possible injuries.

Walnut Hill Playground improvement project moving forward; Volunteer Day this Saturday

Here’s a great chance to participate in a vital neighborhood improvement project. Phase 2 of the Walnut Hill Playground renovation project has kicked off and help from community members is necessary to make this part of the project a success.

Phase I included installing a new retaining wall with seating, and now it is time to install plants in the garden bed, so that next spring the space is alive with color and texture. A volunteer day for this project has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 47th and Sansom where the playground is located. University City District (UCD), which is leading this project along with community partners, will provide the plants, tools and instructions.

Walnut Hill Playground improvement project kicks off at 47th and Sansom

On Monday, local stakeholders, elected officials, and neighbors gathered at 47th and Sansom to celebrate an official groundbreaking for improvements coming to the Walnut Hill Playground.

The improvements are the result of a collaborative effort between University City District’s Green City Works landscaping team, the Walnut Hill Community Association, and local non-profit Do Moore Good to secure a $75,000 investment from the Target Foundation.
