Virtual Town Hall on City’s COVID-19 response this Thursday

City Council members Jamie Gauthier, Isaiah Thomas, and Katherine Gilmore Richardson are hosting a 3rd District virtual town hall this Thursday, Dec. 3 as part of the COVID-19 Community Outreach series. Councilmembers Thomas and Richardson are also co-chairs of the Disadvantaged Communities Task Force.

Community members are invited to participate in an open dialogue about the City’s COVID-19 response. The City Council wants to hear what you have been struggling with during the pandemic, with a goal to provide support to their communities in the best way possible.

The virtual town hall, which will be moderated by Gauthier, will begin at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held via Zoom. For more details and information on how you can join it, please RSVP by sending an email to: DCT@phila.gov.

School District to host virtual town hall sessions for upcoming school year

The School District of Philadelphia is working on a school reopening plan for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year and will be hosting several one-hour Virtual Town Hall sessions from Tuesday, July 7 to Thursday, July 9. Students, parents/caregivers and community members are encouraged to participate and provide feedback.

Sessions will be hosted by a District leader and focus on a key planning area such as health and safety, cleaning practices, school schedules, and curriculum and instruction. Here are the details:  Continue Reading

Councilmember Jamie Gauthier to host virtual Town Hall series every other Thursday during COVID-19 crisis

Councilmember Jamie Gauthier is launching a new Town Hall series to continue a dialogue with the community during the COVID-19 crisis. Town halls will take place every other Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The first town hall will be Thursday, April 16 and will focus on public benefits and how to access them. A representative from Benefits Data Trust will share information and answer questions about public assistance, including programs like WIC, unemployment, and Medicaid.  Continue Reading

Newly elected Rep. Johnson-Harrell to hold her first community town hall this Thursday

Newly-elected State Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell will host her first Community Town Hall since being sworn in.

Residents are invited this Thursday, May 30, to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church (5732 Race St.) to have an open discussion on some key topics, including the 2019-20 state budget, reduction of violence and poverty.

“I look forward to engaging my constituents on ways to create a safe and economically viable community throughout my district,” Johnson-Harrell said in a statement. “Before being elected to office, I was on the frontlines of community activism, with a mission to empower my community. Now as a state legislator, still in the forefront of improving my community, I feel like my goals to better my community has been made all the more possible.”

The community town hall is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Three West Philadelphia area representatives to host joint town hall this Wednesday

State Rep. Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, and State Reps. Vanessa Lowery Brown and Morgan Cephas, both D-Phila., are hosting a joint town hall meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 6-8 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to address “the unique issues facing residents of West Philadelphia.” McClinton, Brown and Cephas will also inform residents of legislative developments in Harrisburg that impact their respective districts.

The meeting will take place at Sayre High School, 5800 Walnut St. and is open to the community.

Education town hall back in West Philly on Nov. 15

townhallmeetingThe “Philly Schools Town Hall” series is coming back to West Philadelphia on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Class size, climate and safety and the quality of school facilities will be on the agenda of the West Philadelphia Education Town Hall at Paul Robeson High School at 4125 Ludlow from 5:30-7 p.m. City Council members Helen Gym, Jannie Blackwell, Allan Domb and Derek Green along with folks from Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower and Rebuild (POWER) will be on hand.

The views and input from citizens at a series of education town halls last spring helped get nurses and counselors back into public schools, among other important measures.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend and to speak. Folks are asked to RSVP here or to call Steve Paul at 215-686-5380.
