Drexel’s tuition-free career accelerator program returns for Spring 2025, now recruiting participants

Drexel University’s Manufacturing Career Accelerator Program is back for the 2025 season. This free 6-week boot camp style program focuses on a Good Manufacturing Practice curriculum and necessary certifications.

Recruiting is now open for the 2025 Spring session, which kicks off April 28. The program will run Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

To participate in the program, you must be a Philadelphia resident, be 18+ years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.

The program is specifically interested in recruiting West Philadelphia residents. In MCAP, participants work with program instructors and staff to develop even more professional skills and learn how to apply them in the workplace. The program helps professionals who have recently become unemployed or are working part-time with low wages and seeking a new career opportunity.

Two local culinary pop-ups coming to Drexel’s Local Restaurant Row

Local restaurant lovers take note: Two new local pop-up culinary experiences will open next week and in early December on Local Restaurant Row located near 34th and Race on the Drexel University campus.

Dinner Out Catering, which features main course entrees such as Thai Chili Glazed Salmon and Coq au Vin and “upgraded American fare,” will be on the row Nov. 18-21 from 4-8 p.m.

Smokin’ Sone’s Fresh Grill, a “boutique catering and private chef company,” will be open Dec. 9-12 during the same hours. Smokin’ Sone’s offers an extensive menu of “upscale comfort” food and is led by Chef Sonya R. Combs.

Both Dinner Out Catering and Smokin’ Sone’s honed their skills at The Enterprise Center’s Dorrance H. Hamilton Center for Culinary Enterprises (CCE), a culinary start-up culinary business incubator that includes a commercial kitchen.

Local Restaurant Row, which is located at the Northside Dining Terrace at 203 N. 34th Street St., is open to Drexel students and the public. It’s a partnership between Drexel University, Aramark, and The Enterprise Center and is aimed at giving neighborhood restaurateurs the opportunity to showcase their menus to a wider audience.

The Manufacturing Career Accelerator Program (MCAP) at Drexel University is back this spring and again recruiting participants among Philadelphia residents. This six-week tuition-free program, which first launched in Spring 2021, is designed to “help participants become their professional best while learning about the manufacturing industry and preparing to begin a rewarding career in a dynamic industry.”

The program is specifically interested in recruiting West Philadelphia residents. In MCAP, participants work with program instructors and staff to develop even more professional skills and learn how to apply them in the workplace.

Drexel program connects neurodiverse job seekers to local employers; Next hiring event is June 27

The Drexel Business Inclusion Center (BIC), which develops strategies and assists businesses in building a diverse and inclusive workforce, is hosting an Aramark hiring event on Tuesday, June 27 for individuals on the autism spectrum and with other disabilities. The event will take place at Drexel’s Handschumacher Dining Center (3210 Chestnut St) between 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Candidates will be interviewed for a variety of positions and receive on-the-spot job offers for positions, many starting in August and September 2023.

Drexel University tuition-free career accelerator program recruiting West Philly residents

The Manufacturing Career Accelerator Program (MCAP) at Drexel University is recruiting participants for a 6-week bootcamp on Drexel’s main campus. This tuition-free program, which first launched in Spring 2021, is designed to “help participants become their professional best while learning about the manufacturing industry and preparing to begin a rewarding career in a dynamic industry.”

The program is specifically interested in recruiting West Philadelphia residents. In MCAP, participants work with program instructors and staff to develop even more professional skills and learn how to apply them in the workplace.

The program helps professionals who have recently become unemployed or are working part-time with low wages and seeking a new career opportunity. Program participants receive a monetary stipend. They will also have an opportunity to connect with local employers with immediate job openings.

The third iteration of the program starts May 1, 2023 and runs for six weeks, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

New, 11-story life sciences research facility breaks ground on Drexel’s campus (updated)

A new state-of-the-art life sciences research and laboratory facility, which is expected to become the city’s largest facility of its kind, broke ground today on Drexel’s campus at 3201 Cuthbert Street. The groundbreaking ceremony included a virtual display powered by more than 200 drones, culminating in a 200-foot tall image of a giant shovel virtually digging into the site to represent the formal launch of construction.

The facility is a partnership between Gattuso Development Partners and Drexel University.
