$5,000 reward offered in search for driver who fatally struck 5-year-old West Philly boy on Friday (updated)

Police believe this car, a blue Hyundai Sonata, struck and killed 5-year-old Xavier Moy on Friday.

UPDATE (6/25/2018): The vehicle believed to be involved in the fatal hit-and-run on Friday was turned in on Sunday night, according to police, but no arrests were made as of Monday morning. The owner of the vehicle is cooperating with the police, but it’s not clear whether this person was behind the wheel when the accident happened. The investigation is still underway.

Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 5-year-old West Philly boy on Friday, June 22. The boy, identified by police as Xavier Moy, was struck on the 5000 block of Irving Street at 4:08 p.m. on Friday and was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition. Police looking for suspects who stole video surveillance cameras near 47th and Osage

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying three individuals responsible for stealing several video surveillance cameras from homes in the area of 4700 Osage Avenue and for a fire believed to be arson near 41st and Sansom.

The video camera theft occurred on Thursday, April 19, in the early morning hours, according to police. Then, on Saturday, May 3, around 1:25 a.m., the same suspects vandalized the side of a commercial vehicle with paint and then set it on fire on the 4100 block of Sansom Street, according to police.  Continue Reading

Woman found naked, shot in head near 47th and Springfield (updated)

A woman in her mid 20s was found shot dead near 47th and Springfield early Tuesday, according to police.

The unidentified woman, who was naked except for socks, was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police responded to reports of gunshots shortly after midnight on Tuesday. The woman was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday. A handgun was found near her body, according to reports.

A police spokesman said this morning that the woman’s death was likely a suicide, but added that an investigation was underway.

Police search for suspect in armed robberies of four banks in University City, including PNC at 40th and Walnut on Tuesday

Police are asking for the public’s assistance to help find the person who they believe robbed five banks in the city in the past month, four of them in the University City area. The latest robbery was Tuesday, May 22 when the suspect, a man in his late 40’s to early 50’s (pictured), entered the PNC Bank branch at 40th and Walnut at around 4 p.m. and and held up the bank at gunpoint.

The suspect was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun in this robbery. He fled on foot with an unknown amount of cash, according to reports.

Suspect in shooting death of 23-year-old Penn State student Dominique Oglesby arrested

Police have made an arrest in the killing of 23-year-old Penn State student Dominique Oglesby on March 18 near 52nd and Market. Julius Scott, 25, was arrested on Wednesday morning on the 5700 block of Pine Street, just a couple blocks from the 18th District police station.

Oglesby, who was a senior at Penn Sate and was expected to graduate this spring, was shot and killed outside the Galaxy West Bar and Grill at 52nd and Market on a Sunday afternoon. She was reportedly involved in an altercation with the shooter and another woman inside the bar and called her family for help. After her father and grandfather arrived to help her they were all shot. Oglesby was shot once in the back and died later that day at the hospital. Her father and grandfather survived the shooting.

Police released information on the suspect last month.

Vigil this Friday for Dominique Oglesby, 23-year-old Penn State student killed Sunday at 52nd and Market

A candlelight vigil for Dominique Oglesby will take place this Friday at 6 p.m. at 52nd and Market Streets. Police are still looking for the male suspect who shot and killed Dominique, a 23-year-old West Philly resident and Penn State senior on Sunday afternoon outside of Galaxy West Bar & Grill at 52nd and Market.

The unidentified shooter and another female were reportedly involved in an altercation with Dominique inside the bar and started shooting while running away when her father and grandfather showed up after the altercation escalated. Her father and grandfather were also shot, but will recover from their injuries.

Dominique was shot once in the back and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m. on Sunday. Her father was shot in a foot and her grandfather was shot in an arm, according to police.  Continue Reading
