Teen fatally shot on 200 block of N. 52nd St (updated)

UPDATE (1/17/2017): Police have recovered surveillance video from inside the store. The video shows an unknown black male wearing a green hooded jacket entering the store, pulling out a handgun and directing the victim, 16-year-old Sean D-Jones, to the floor. After several minutes talking on a cell phone, with Jones still on the floor, the suspect shot him one time in the head, according to a police report. After shooting Jones, the suspect calmly walked out of the building and headed north on N. 52nd Street towards Haverford Ave. The victim’s father was in the back of the storefront residence during the shooting. He heard a “thump” and minutes later discovered his son bleeding on the floor, according to the report.

Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a 16-year-old youth on Sunday afternoon in West Philadelphia.

The victim, identified as Sean-D Jones, was inside his father’s store, Gary Global Links Video Productions, located on the 200 block of N. 52nd Street, when someone entered the store and shot him once in the head shortly after 12 p.m., according to police. The teen was critically injured and died at a local hospital a short time later, according to reports. So far no arrests have been made.

Jones and his older brother recently immigrated to the U.S. from Jamaica, according to reports. 6ABC spoke to Jones’ brother, Shaquille Jones.

Driver shot execution-style, killed near 51st and Market

A deadly shooting took place in West Philadelphia late Tuesday when a man was shot multiple times while sitting in a parked car near 51st and Market, according to police. The shooting happened shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 21. Police say an unidentified male opened the passenger side door of a black 2015 Toyota Camry and shot the driver, a man in his 20’s or 30’s, multiple times in the head at close range.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told CBS Philly that the victim was shot at least five times with a semi-automatic weapon. Police believe this was a targeted shooting. The investigation continues.

Woman dies after being struck by vehicle fleeing police at 52nd and Locust (updated)

UPDATE: The woman who was struck by the car fleeing police near 52nd and Locust has died, according to NBC 10. She was inside one of the vehicles struck by the suspects. The victim was identified as 55-year-old Carol Isom who lived on the 200 block of S. 53rd Street. She was the driver of a Kia Soul and was traveling east on Locust Street when her car was struck by a dark gray Nissan Maxima driven by one of the suspects.

Police say an unidentified driver sped away from police and hit the unnamed woman at about 7:30 p.m. She was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and was listed in critical condition, according to NBC10.

Philly.com is reporting that police pursued two suspects after a gun was fired near 48th and Westminster. The crash included three other vehicles. Both men were arrested.

$45,000 reward for information in hit-and-run that killed 8-year-old West Philly girl (updated)

UPDATE (Nov. 30, 8:30 p.m.) NBC10 is reporting that a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the hit and run. Police located the vehicle they believe was involved in the crash at an automotive repair shop in Fraser, a town in Chester County along Route 30 about 25 miles outside the city. 

After a week and a half since the hit-and-run that left a West Philly girl dead, police are still searching for the driver who struck the child while she was crossing 63rd St. near Lansdowne Avenue in Overbrook and fled the scene. A total of $45,000 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect and their conviction.

The crash happened at about 3:15 p.m. on November 18 when 8-year-old Jayanna Powell was walking home from school with her siblings. The little girl was found unconscious on the street and was transported to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where she was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m., according to police.

The vehicle is believed to be a silver 2009-2016 Nissan Maxima or Altima. The vehicle should have damage to one of the front headlights as well as damage to the front grill area.

The Mayor’s Office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver, and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 is offering $15,000. In addition, the girl’s uncle is offering a $20,000 reward to anyone with information about the driver, according to Philly.com.

Anyone with information on the identity of the driver or the whereabouts of the vehicle, is asked to contact Accident Investigation District at 215-685-3180 / 3181 or call 911.

Woman wanted for placing skimming device on Sansom Street ATM

Surveillance video shows the suspect entering the lobby of the Inn at Penn (from the Philly Police Blog).

Police are looking for a woman who they say placed a device on an ATM at the Inn at Penn at 36th and Sansom and skimmed credit card numbers.

The device, which is designed to look just like the slot through which you slide a card, was fit over the machine’s slot on Oct. 8 in the lobby ATM and was able to intercept debit and credit card numbers, police said. The device was discovered after three days.  Continue Reading

Two robberies on 5000 block of Pine St. in one week

Police shared information on some of the recent robberies in the area. Six gunpoint robberies were reported in the area in August and four gunpoint robberies total in June and July, according to the monthly University City Crime Update. Based on previous years, September and October are more active months in terms of crime. We’ll keep you posted. Also, check out the Crime Reports website for more crime reports.

Two people, a 34-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man were robbed at gunpoint on October 23 on the 5000 block of Pine Street by two teens (approximately 15-18 years old), according to a police report. The robbery took place at around 8:20 p.m. The suspects approached the victims from behind while they were walking in the area and one of them pointed a black handgun at the couple and demanded their property. The suspects took the victims’ wallets containing credit cards and some cash and their phones and then fled westbound on Pine Street, according to the report.
