Democratic mayoral candidate Cherelle Parker to stop at Clarkville for Meet & Greet

The 2023 Pennsylvania General Election, when Philadelphians will elect a new mayor, is just three weeks away. On Thursday, Oct. 19, from 6-8 p.m., the 27th Ward Democratic Committee (Facebook page) is hosting a meet and greet with mayoral candidate Cherelle Parker at the West Philly restaurant Clarkville, located at 43rd and Baltimore. The event is free and open to the public. Check out the flyer below for more details.

Parker is running against Republican David Oh in the general election on November 7.

Cherelle Parker wins Democratic primary for mayor; How did West Philly vote?

Cherelle Parker comfortably won the Democratic nomination for mayor in Tuesday’s primary election and will likely become the first woman to hold the job in city’s history.

Parker, a Mount Airy resident and the only native Philadelphian among the top three vote-getters, dominated in heavily African American wards in the city. Parker received 32.95 percent of the votes (69,499 ballots cast). Former City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart received 22.63 percent (47,737 ballots), and former City Councilmember and education reformer Helen Gym received 21.31 percent (44,946 ballots).

It is worth noting that the voter turnout was low, with the total of 239,680 ballots cast, or about 23.5 percent of registered voters. Continue Reading

“Restoring Safety” mayor forum to take place this Wednesday (virtual event)

(2/28/2023): A mayoral forum sponsored by CeaseFirePA and WHYY News and dedicated to gun violence, policing and public safety, will take place Wednesday, March 1. The “100th Mayor: Restoring Safety Forum” will be held at WHYY, 150 N. 6th St. (invite-only tickets were available for in-person attendees) and will also be livestreamed via Facebook.

The mayoral candidates will be asked some tough questions on the city gun violence crisis by three moderators: gun violence prevention reporter Sam Searles, community leader Chantay Love, and trauma surgeon Elinore Kaufman.

Meet the candidates next month in a mayoral forum in West Philly

The mayor’s race is heating up and candidates will be in West Philly next month for a forum at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia Crosstown Coalition, a non-partisan non-profit corporation, is hosting a Philadelphia Mayoral Candidates Forum on March 28, 7-9 p.m., at Penn (Houston Hall, 3417 Spruce St.). Voters can learn where the candidates stand on several issues and discuss how they plan to implement their vision for the city.

All candidates will be asked to respond to the same set of questions prepared beforehand.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. For more information and to reserve your spot, go here.

If you can’t make it to this event, the Crosstown Coalition will be hosting another mayoral forum on April 12 in Center City.
