The inaugural meeting of the Cobbs Creek Neighbors Association will be held Monday, Feb. 1 at the A.W. Christy Recreation Center (728 S. 55th St.), beginning at 7 p.m.

“Because we are a new group and still growing we are hoping to have an open discussion to hear what you would like to see more (or less) of in the community,” the group posted on its Facebook page.

The Cobbs Creek neighborhood is generally thought to be bounded by Market Street to the north, Baltimore Avenue to the south, east to 52nd Street and Cobbs Creek Parkway to the West. The public is invited. The agenda is open and might include discussion of development plans along 60th Street.

Here’s some good news following the monster weekend storm and the enormous snow removal work: Trash and recycling collections are expected to resume on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

As concerns the problem of many side streets still not plowed after the 4th largest snow storm in Philly history, City officials expect to have all thruway streets plowed by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Trash and recycling collection has been cancelled for Monday, Jan. 25 due to snow clean up. If your trash pick-up day is Monday, please hold it until Feb. 1.

Earlier today the School District of Philadelphia announced that all public schools and early childhood programs will be closed on Monday.

City offices and courts will be open.

UPDATE (10:30 p.m.): The City lifted the snow emergency at 10 p.m., so parking in designated snow emergency routes is now permitted. The Philadelphia Parking Authority will not enforce meters or time limit violations on Monday due to ongoing cleanup efforts.

Snow storm Jonas continues, and this is what some West Philly streets looked like as of 11 a.m. on Saturday.

According to the latest estimates, up to 23 inches of snow is expected in Philadelphia. The snow is expected to fall until about 8 p.m. on Saturday, with the heaviest period from 10:30 a.m to noon. Also watch out for gusty winds through early Sunday.

The City has declared a snow emergency effective 9 p.m. Friday. If you parked your vehicle along any of the snow emergency routes, please move it as soon as possible. All vehicles remaining parked along the emergency routes after 9 p.m. will be towed. If your car is towed please call 215-686-SNOW.

Here are the snow emergency routes in West Philadelphia:

• Chestnut Street from Cobbs Creek Parkway to 20th Street
• Walnut Street from Broad Street to Cobbs Creek Parkway
• Woodland Avenue from Cobbs Creek Parkway to University Avenue
• 34th Street from University Avenue to Grays Ferry Avenue
• 38th Street from Walnut to University Avenue
• 63rd Street from City Avenue to Walnut Street
• University Avenue from 38th Street to 34th Street
• Island Avenue from Woodland Avenue to Enterprise Avenue
• Cobbs Creek Parkway from Walnut Street to Woodland Avenue
• Schuylkill Avenue from Market Street to Walnut Street

As of 9 p.m., meter and time limit violations will not be enforced in the city, but snow emergency routes and safety violations will be enforced.

A large sinkhole has opened up on 40th Street between Chestnut and Walnut Streets, according to an announcement by Penn Public Safety, and this portion of the street is closed to all vehicular traffic, including SEPTA Operations. Philadelphia Water Department has been notified, but due to the impending snowstorm, this closure will potentially last for several days.

Philadelphia and Penn Police will be on location throughout the weekend to assist with the closures and detours.
