If you’re hankering for a flower-related activity and you don’t feel like making the trek to Center City, Bartram’s Garden (54th and Lindbergh) might have what you’re looking for.

The Garden grounds and shop will be open for tours this week from today to March 13 to coincide with the Philadelphia International Flower Show. While you are there you can pick up some heirloom seeds at the Garden shop. Tours are available until 4 p.m.

WPVI ran a story yesterday about the gospel concert fundraiser at the Monumental Baptist Church (4948 Locust St.). The concert was held in cooperation with the Walnut Hill Community Association, which has raised some $5,000 for fire victims, according to the story. That includes a $1,000 donation from Mayor Michael Nutter, who was on hand for yesterday’s concert.

The Friends of Clark Park has released a tentative list of large events for this spring, summer and fall. The events still need to go through the permitting process of the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation. Because of the ongoing construction at the “A” park, all of the large events this year will take place in the “B” or “C” parks below Chester Avenue.

One recent fixture on the summer park calendar, the annual music festival Best Fest, will not take place this year.

The Friends of Clark Park has recommended that no large events take place in Park A this season.

WHYY’s community news site Newsworks.org has a nice little piece yesterday about this afternoon’s gospel concert  fundraiser for Windermere fire victims at the Monumental Baptist Church (4948 Locust St.)

Concert organizer Keith Wallace told Newsworks that he had a vision well before the Windermere fire that he would help fire victims.

The concert is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.. Donations for the fire victims will be gladly accepted. See the flier  for more details.

Just a reminder that the “Arts for the Cause” fundraiser for victims of the Windermere Court Apartments fire is tonight beginning at 8:30 p.m. at The Rotunda (4014 Walnut St.). The fundraiser features a number of great musical performances. Check out the flier for more details.

Police have nabbed two teenagers in the Feb. 21 theft of  dozens of laptop computers from West Philadelphia High School after they tried to sell them on Craigslist.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that a man came forward after seeing a television news story about the stolen computers and told police that he bought a similar computer from an advertisement on Craigslist. Southwest Detectives then set up another buy last Thursday near 52nd and Market Streets where they arrested one of the teens.

Police found 28 more computers at the 17-year-old boy’s home. Another 17-year-old boy was arrested last Friday. One is a student at West Philadelphia High School and the other a student at University City High School, the Inquirer reported. Both are charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. Some 60 laptops in all were taken and about 30 are still missing.
