The Woodlands

Add to calendar

Inspired by Jane Austen, William Hamilton, and the history of The Woodlands, this concert features compositions in conversation with the Federal period, when The Woodlands was a center for civic, social, and botanical life in Philadelphia.

The concert includes works by G.F. Handel, as well as music by Henry Purcell from the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. There are also names likely new to you — like James Oswald, whose Airs for the Seasons celebrates flowers, and Ignatius Sancho, an 18th-century Black British composer and abolitionist with a remarkable history. Join Amy Leonard (viola), Rainer Beckmann (recorder), Donna Fournier (viola da gamba), and Marcia Kravis (harpsichord) for an afternoon of the music of Jane Austen’s world!

Tickets: $40; $30 for Members of The Woodlands (email info@woodlandsphila.org for a member discount code) Ticket Link: https://woodlandsphila.ticketleap.com/music-at-the-mansion-2023-1/
