The West Philadelphia business scene is welcoming several new culinary additions, boutique retail shops, and neighborhood relocations this season. From highly anticipated eateries to unique specialty storefronts, here is a look at what is coming to the area, along with a notable coffee spot that has already opened its doors.
Dining & Coffee
Fried chicken enthusiasts have a major reason to celebrate. Love & Honey Fried Chicken, the highly-praised Philadelphia staple known for its buttermilk fried chicken, is expanding into University City. The new eatery will be located at 41st and Chestnut Streets (4060 Chestnut St.), bringing its signature sweet-and-savory flavors, scratch-made southern sides, and hospitality to local residents and students alike.
New dining and beverage options are actively reshaping the retail spaces along Walnut Street and Lancaster Avenue:
Port Coffee: Having recently opened its doors in the former Metropolitan Bakery storefront at 4013 Walnut St., this Yemeni coffee company is now officially serving handcrafted espresso beverages, traditional pastries, and premium coffee sourced directly from Yemen.
Barakat Chicken: The neighborhood’s halal food options continue to grow with this upcoming eatery at 43rd and Walnut Streets (occupying the former Chinese restaurant space). Barakat Chicken will specialize in bold, authentic chicken shawarma and quick-service comfort options.
Mango Mango: The popular dessert chain has officially opened its third Philadelphia location at 3643 Lancaster Ave., introducing a menu packed with creative mango-infused treats, sticky rice, and ice cream combinations.
Retail, Fitness, and Specialty Shops
The neighborhood’s retail and wellness scene is also seeing additions, with new specialized storefronts opening in the area:
Paperboy: Retail choices are expanding with the addition of this specialty stationery and paper goods boutique opening at 3425 Walnut Street. Created by the team behind the neighboring home goods staple Hello World, Paperboy will serve as a dedicated sister store focusing on notebooks, journals, high-quality writing accessories, greeting cards, and curated gifts. Under the tagline “Catch the Moment,” the storefront aims to provide a creative shopping experience tailored for students, design enthusiasts, and neighborhood shoppers.
URacquet Shop: For local athletes and tennis enthusiasts, a dedicated specialty racquet, restringing, and gear storefront is now officially open for business at 4711 Pine Street, bringing a niche athletic resource right to the heart of the Garden Court and Spruce Hill neighborhoods.
Monarch Yoga: Joining the local wellness community is this popular Philadelphia fitness brand. Monarch Yoga is expanding into University City this summer, setting up a new studio space at 3421 Walnut Street to offer its signature inclusive yoga classes to the neighborhood.
