UPDATE (1/1/2026): SEPTA’s Trolley Tunnel will remain closed through early January until the necessary repairs are complete and test trolley runs are successful, according to a Dec. 31 announcement by SEPTA. The repairs in the tunnel are expected to be completed by the end of this week, after which SEPTA will begin running test trolleys. A target re-opening date for the tunnel has not been announced yet, but is expected to be announced shortly, according to SEPTA.

12/13/2025: SEPTA’s Trolley Tunnel closure is expected to continue until the end of December, as more testing is needed before the tunnel can reopen for regular service, according to the latest announcement by SEPTA.

All trolleys will continue to be diverted to 40th and Market. To mitigate the impact of the tunnel closure, SEPTA will begin running a new T Bus Shuttle starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15.

The T Bus Shuttle will be running approximately every ten minutes between 40th/Market and 15th St/City Hall with the following stops:

• 40th and Market
• 36th and Market
• 33rd and Market
• 30th and Market
• 22nd and Market
• 19th and Market (Eastbound) / 19th and JFK (Westbound)
• 15th and Market

“We understand that this extended closure is extremely frustrating for our riders, and we thank you for your continued patience as we work to safely reopen the trolley tunnel as soon as possible,” SEPTA’s announcement reads.

The current Trolley Tunnel closure began Nov. 13 after continued outages in the tunnel due to a damaged overhead wire. Since then SEPTA crews have been working to repair and test the overhead infrastructure. Read more about this here.
