The Philly Download to release limited-edition 2025 Election Zine; Available at some West Philly locations from Oct. 30

October 29, 2025

The Philly Download (TPDL), a hyper-local, “hyper-black” digital newspaper, is releasing a limited-edition 2025 Election Zine. This free exclusive collector’s edition is the Download’s first-ever print publication and will serve as a one-stop shop guide for Philadelphians as they head to the polls for the Tuesday, Nov. 4 General Election.

The Election Zine will include detailed information on which candidates are on the ballot, when and how residents can vote, and more. It will also include art and poetry, alongside in-depth reporting and photojournalism on a range of topics directly impacting Black voters in Philadelphia and across the nation. This includes the issue of Black voter exhaustion, Pennsylvania’s fight for fundamental rights, as well as a celebration of the legacy of Octavius V. Catto.

There will only be 500 copies of the Download’s Election Zine printed and residents can find them at only five locations across the city, including the following West Philly locations:

• Hakim’s Bookstore & Gift Shop (210 S. 52nd St)
• Making Worlds Cooperative Bookstore & Social Center (210 S. 45th St)

“I’m thrilled that we’ll be able to share our approach to journalism in this way, in community spaces,” said Cassie Owens, executive director/editor-in-chief of The Philly Download. “The team has put a tremendous amount of work into making Philly Download an organization that reflects our communities and takes their needs seriously. This zine is a culmination of those efforts so far, and an experiment towards meeting our readers where they are in this political moment.”

In addition to serving as a guide for active voters, this special edition zine will help educate and encourage young Black voters to make their voices heard and vote in the November 4 election.

The Philly Download’s Election Zine will also launch online on Thursday, Oct. 30 and can be viewed at thedownload.news/election.

I believe you have printed the dates for the election incorrectly. Election day is November 4, Tuesday. You have printed November 5, Wednesday. This will be confusing for your readers.
