Where to buy outdoor plants – flowers, veggies, herbs and more – this spring (updated)

Spring is here and it’s time to think about what plants you want for your porch, yard, or garden. Check out these plant sale events in West and Southwest Philly and shop for flowers, veggies, herbs, berries and other plants locally this spring.

The University City Garden Club has kicked off their annual Spring Plant Sale. Orders can be made online through April 15, with pick-ups scheduled for Saturday, May 4. Also, UC Garden Club members will be selling plants at the Spruce Hill May Fair in Clark Park on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit: https://ucgcshop.square.site.

Bartram’s Garden is hosting the annual Spring Fest on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Fest will feature Bartram’s plant nursery’s seasonal kick-off and sale, where guests can shop for partial-full sun plants and shade plants including veggies and herbs, and pollinator plants. The Penn State Master Gardeners of Philadelphia County Plant Sale returns to the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center on Sunday, April 28, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (rain or shine!). The sale features hundreds of varieties of vegetables, herbs, fruit, berries, flowers, pollinator plants, with a focus on native species, and more. Also, the event includes tours of the Master Gardener gardens at the Horticulture Center: the Pollinator Garden, Edible Demo Garden, and Food Forest, gardening activities for kids, and free interactive demos and workshops. Plant and People (1431 N. 52nd St.) is hosting its 4th Annual Big A** Plant Sale (B.A.P.S.) on Sunday, April 28 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The sale features both outdoor (veggies, fruit and more!) and indoor plants + marketplace, workshops, plant based food, and pots. Philadelphia Orchard Project (POP) is holding its annual Spring Open House and Plant Sale at The Woodlands (40th and Woodland) on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Plants available for sale will include figs, blueberries, elderberries, chokeberries, and a range of other fruiting trees, shrubs, vines, and some perennial flowers and herbs. The Food Trust’s Clark Park Farmers Market is another place where you can buy plants, like veggies and herbs. Stop by the market (43rd and Chester) on Saturdays, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
