City opens COVID vaccine walk-up clinic for West Philly residents over 65

April 7, 2021

The city’s Department of Public Health is opening three walk-up vaccine clinics in three neighborhoods, one of them in West Philly, to reach out to more residents over the age of 65 who haven’t yet received their COVID vaccine shots.

Starting today (Wed, April 7), Health Center 3 located in Clark Park at 43rd and Chester will host walk-up clinics every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those who are 65 and older.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the city has increased over the past six weeks, and elderly residents have a serious risk of dying from the infection, according to Philadelphia Public Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley. So far, about 45 percent of residents over the age of 65 have received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to Farley.

Just a reminder that many local pharmacies, such as Rite Aid, Walgreens, ACME, Shoprite and some independent pharmacies, are also administering COVID vaccines to people over the age of 65. Appointments are required. Please use this online tool, VaccineFinder, to find a vaccine near you and make an appointment. You can also call your local pharmacy or even stop by to check on vaccine availability.

“Elderly” in the way its used here seems a bit demeaning. Why not just say vaccines are available to those who are 65 and over———I’d say elderly is as much as state of mind as it is anything past a certain age.
