Philadelphia to expand COVID vaccine eligibility to more groups of essential workers

April 1, 2021

Philadelphia will enter the next phase of COVID vaccine eligibility, Phase 1c, beginning Monday, April 5, the city’s Department of Public Health announced today. This phase includes essential workers with lower risk of coronavirus exposure. The following four groups of essential workers are being prioritized within this phase and will be eligible to receive the vaccine starting this Monday:

  • sanitation workers
  • maintenance and janitorial workers
  • utility workers
  • postal and package delivery workers

Additional groups eligible for the vaccine will be announced later this month. Other groups of essential workers in Phase 1c include people working in higher education, construction workers, public health workers, and more. Go here for more information.

Philadelphia officials recently announced that they’re planning to open COVID vaccine eligibility to all adults on May 1. They’re also urging Philadelphians age 65 and older to get vaccinated as soon as possible as COVID-19 cases are on the rise again in the city.

As of April 1, over 373,000 Philadelphians have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, and over 185,000 residents have been fully vaccinated.

To pre-register for a COVID vaccine, please fill out the Vaccine Interest Form online or call 311. Vaccine walk-up clinics will be held at the University of the Sciences on April 13 and April 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information is available here.
