Public schools to reopen for in-person learning on a rolling schedule beginning March 8

March 1, 2021

Pre-K through second-grade students will begin returning to school buildings for in-person learning on a rolling schedule beginning Monday, March 8, according to an announcement today by the School District of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Federation of Teachers.

The announcement was made following the conclusion of the mediation process between the District and the PFT, which will allow the union to review the safety plan for each school building.

After the initial review of the buildings by the PFT, the first 53 schools have been approved to resume in-person instruction using the District’s hybrid model on Monday, March 8 for PreK to second-grade students who chose hybrid learning during the selection process last fall. Teachers at those 53 schools will report to work this Wednesday, March 3. The full list of schools set to reopen on March 8 is available here.

More schools will reopen every week following the week of March 8. The goal is to have the return dates for all PreK to second-grade hybrid learning students announced by March 22.
