West Philly State House race updates

June 3, 2020

We won’t know the official results for more than a week, but it looks like a couple of upsets are brewing following Tuesday’s primary election.

It looks like Amen Brown will be the Democratic candidate in November for the State House of Representatives 190th District. Several news outlets have already projected Brown to win the seat. He had about 49 percent of the votes as of Wednesday. G. Roni Green, who won the seat in a special election earlier year, stood in second place with 29 percent.

The results won’t be final until mail-in ballots are counted, which could take several days, according to election officials.

The wait will seem even longer for candidates and voters in the State House 188th District, where the race is too close to call.

Community organizer Rick Krajewski holds a slim lead with about 34 percent of votes cast in person, compared to incumbent James Roebuck’s 30 percent. Ward leader Gregory Benjamin garnered 24 percent and former Roebuck aide Karen Dunn stood at 13 percent.

Philadelphia residents can now use a new election results website, results.philadelphiavotes.com, recently launched by the Philadelphia City Commissioners. An unofficial tally of results from Election Day was available after the polls closed on Tuesday. Beginning Wednesday, June 3, absentee and mail-in ballot results will be added to the election night tally until all of the votes have been counted.
