2015 Leaf Recycling Program begins this week; first bagged leaf drop-off date: Nov 14 (updated)

leavesThe City of Philadelphia 2015 Leaf Collection and Recycling Program begins on Monday, Nov. 9, according to an announcement by the Streets Department. For the duration of the program, bagged leaf drop-off will be offered citywide on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents can drop off bagged leaves starting Nov. 14 and through Dec. 19 (with the exception of the Saturdays following Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving holidays) at the following locations in West Philadelphia:

  • 66th and Haverford Avenue
  • 54th and Woodbine Avenue
  • 43rd and Powelton Avenue
  • 72nd and Buist Avenue

Please note that only leaves in biodegradable (brown paper) bags will be accepted at the above locations. Brown paper bags can be purchased at home improvement stores, including Monarch Hardware on Walnut near 45th. Bags placed at the curb will be collected as trash, not recycling. 

Mechanical Leaf Collection

Mechanical leaf collection will be offered in addition to bagged leaf collection in areas with a heavy concentration of leaves. Residents are urged to sweep and bag any remaining leaves and take them to one of the drop-off locations or they may be placed out with regular trash collections.

In West Philadelphia, mechanical leave collection will take place from Nov. 16 through Nov. 20 in the following areas:

Monday, Nov. 16
• 72nd to 66th Streets, from Malvern Avenue to City Line Avenue
• 66th to 63rd Streets, from Malvern Avenue to City Line Avenue
Tuesday, Nov. 17
• 63rd to 58th Streets, from Upland Way to City Avenue
Wednesday, Nov. 18
• 63rd Street to 58th Street, from Upland Way to City Line Avenue
• 58th Street to 54th Street, from Upland Way to City Line Avenue
Thursday, Nov. 19
• 54th Street to 49th Street, from Wynnefield Avenue to City Line Avenue
• Wynnefield Avenue to Columbia Avenue, from 54th Street to Parkside Avenue
Friday, Nov. 20
• 38th to 52nd Streets, from Baltimore Avenue to Spruce Street

Residents who live in the areas listed above are encouraged to sweep all the leaves to the curb prior to the scheduled leaf collection date for their area.
