Pickpocketing at Milk & Honey

January 13, 2012

Several pickpocketing incidents have been recently reported at Milk & Honey Market (4435 Baltimore Ave), prompting attention from the University City District patrols and police. At least four wallets appear to have been taken from briefly unattended coats and bags at Milk and Honey since late December.

In response to the incidents, Milk and Honey owner Annie Baum Stein wrote today:

“Please be aware that there is a pick pocket frequenting Milk & Honey. As far as we know four wallets have been stolen since the holidays. It seems in more then one instance the wallets were in coat pockets and the coats where on the back of chairs. We have contacted the police and the UCD.

We have security cameras and will be providing the police with the footage. We will do everything we can to return our store to being as safe as possible. In the mean time please look out for your personal belongings and please look out for each other.

Officers from the 18th district will now add a stop at Milk & Honey during their daily rotations and sign a log book held at our cash register. We have posted security camera signs and will post security signs provided by the UCD soon.

Please do pass it on to your friends and neighbors and any other neighborhood listserves.

Thank you to those who have already brought this to our attention and if anyone else thinks they were robbed at Milk & Honey please let us know right away.”

I get robbed every time I go there. Slow unorganized service(time robbery), and unbelievably high prices(well, you get it).

Matthew, that was a cheap shot.

I’m glad Milk & Honey is there. I know I’m not alone. It’s brings a little elegance and quality to our neighborhood. We pay for that, naturally. One doesn’t have to go there exclusively. The Supreme and Fresh Grocer are within an easy distance. So Milk & Honey is not price gouging. Why not go occasionally, as a treat, or regularly, for several favorite foods? That’s what I do. I usually buy my bread there.

As for the service, I have to say that the staff is always moving and working hard. And always friendly. Yes, I’ve had to wait for service at times, but it’s not because they’re slacking. If you want more service, you’re asking for more staff, which means higher prices, but you don’t want that, correct?

(By the way, I hope this post will earn me a free loaf of fresh sliced cracked wheat bread. I’m the big fat guy with the glasses)

I don’t understand why people want to hate on Milk & Honey. Love it for what it is, don’t fault it for what its not? Just be realistic and glad its not a [edited] subway. Geez.

I am endlessly grateful for the bread at Milk & Honey. It’s reasonably priced…$2.75 for a *good* baguette? I’ll take it. Also, the lancaster bacon is phenomenal. I don’t even know how much it costs. Whatever it is, it’s totally worth it.

Frankly, there are a lot of things that I like about M&H despite their overpricing. But, I don’t why the owner has to be so rude and unpleasant- while the employees obviously try to make up for her ignoring customers and the like.
