The Barnes Foundation continues its community programming in West Philadelphia and will host a special Barnes Presents! event this Thursday, Nov. 7 at The Bank (3750 Lancaster Ave). The event will introduce the Barnes’ current major exhibition, 30 Americans, and will include a conversation about race and equity in the arts. Li Sumpter, a scholar of art, myth, and humanities, and artist Sherman Fleming will participate in the discussion, moderated by the Barnes education team’s Jihan Thomas.

Cindy Kang, Barnes Associate Curator, will provide an introduction to the 30 Americans exhibition, which features painting, photography and sculpture by leading contemporary African American artists. The event will offer an evening of artful conversation, music, and a chance to network for neighbors to share a cultural experience.

Barnes Presents! is a monthly component of Barnes @ LoLa38, a collaboration between the Barnes and People’s Emergency Center on arts programming taking place in West Philadelphia and at the Barnes. Barnes@LoLa38 is supported by a grant from the William Penn Foundation.

Artists, scholars, neighborhood residents, college students, or members of the general public are invited to engage in the discussion and to network at The Bank, an activated creative placemaking space in a former (United) bank building.

The event is scheduled to take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
