Johnson-Harrell wins state 190th House District seat

March 13, 2019

Democratic nominee Movita Johnson-Harrell easily won Tuesday’s special election for the 190th House District seat.

Johnson-Harrell, who was most recently the head of the victim service unit in the District Attorney’s Office, won with about two-thirds of votes cast. She replaces Vanessa Lowery Brown, who was forced to resign in December after being convicted of bribery charges.

Amen Brown, a Democrat who was running as an independent, finished second, according to reports. Pamela K. Williams, a pastor from West Philly running in the Working Families Party, finished third and Republican Michael Harvey finished fourth.

Local Democratic leaders chose Johnson-Harrell after their first two choices, attorney Sonte Reavis and Philly Cuts barbershop owner Daryl Thomas, withdrew following allegations in The Philadelphia Inquirer, that they did not live in the district.

Johnson-Harrell enters the 203-member state House in which Republicans hold a 19-seat advantage.

Congratulations! However I heard her victory interview about representing “women, black women, and Muslim women. She needs to be reminded she represents the PEOPLE! Most people don’t care if she is a women, black women, or Muslim women. What we do care about is that she represents all the PEOPLE.
