If you’re looking for environmentally friendly ways to dispose of your Christmas tree, there are a few options available in the area.

Philadelphia Streets Department’s Christmas Tree Recycling Program

As part of this annual program, now through January 12th, residents may drop off their trees at any of the following Streets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers (Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.):

• 3901 N Delaware Ave.
• 2601 West Glenwood Avenue
• 3033 South 63rd Street
• Domino Lane and Umbria Street
• State Road and Ashburner Street

There will also be Christmas tree drop-off sites located throughout the city at 23 designated locations only on Saturday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Here are the sites in West Philadelphia (click here for more locations):

• 66th & Haverford Ave.
• 54th & Woodbine Ave.
• 43rd & Powelton Ave.

Please make sure that your Christmas tree is free of all decorations and ornaments and untied before dropping it off at any of these locations.

Please note that trees placed at the curb will be picked up as trash. For more information about the Streets Department’s Christmas Tree Recycling program, go here.

Christmas Tree Recycling Event with UC Green

West Philly-based non-profit UC Green is teaming up with Bartlett Tree Experts for a Tree-Cycle event, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Malcolm X Park (52nd and Pine). Please bring your tree with a donation ($5-$20) and watch it getting mulched (see photo above) while sipping on a hot beverage and listening to live music! The season’s first Tree-Cycle event was held in Clark Park on Dec. 29. Here’s a flier with more information:
