Need a tree? Curtis and his crew are back

Curtis

There are a few things around that signal the arrival of the holiday season. The squirrels bulk up a little for the winter, parking is a little easier to come by as the students start leaving and, like clockwork, Curtis and his amiable crew set up their Christmas tree operation at 50th and Baltimore (just like they have every year for 25 years or so).

This year, they began selling trees on the triangle in front of Dock Street the day after Thanksgiving and will continue right through Christmas Eve. The selection is good – different sizes, types and prices. They also have stands if you need one of those and they will tie up your tree so it can go in your grocery cart (or on your car).

Curtis  is typically open every day from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m..

We’ll keep you posted on other spots to buy a tree around the neighborhoods, but as usual Curtis gets first mention of the season.

Need a Christmas tree? Go see Curtis

Curtis (far left) and his crew are back at 50th and Baltimore dealing Christmas trees with a smile.

If you are out looking for a tree any time between now and Christmas Eve, we highly recommend stopping to see Curtis and his merry crew, who are back again this year at 50th and Baltimore. Like past years, Curtis has a fairly wide selection of trees (we picked up a nice Scotch pine today) at a lot of different prices. They have the string and are really good at tying trees to the tops of cars or wrapping it up to fit in a shopping cart. They also have tree stands.

One of the things we love about Curtis is that he leaves several trees out after he closes up shop each night for those who can’t afford to buy one. Curtis will be on the triangle in front of Dock Street Brewing Co. until Christmas Eve. You can complete the buy local experience by popping in for a beer at Dock Street or crossing the street for a gift at VIX Emporium near the northwest corner of 50th and Baltimore.

Last chance for Bartram’s Garden greenery

Posted on 05 December 2010 by Mike Lyons

Word has it that the volunteers selling holiday greenery at Bartram’s Garden (54th and Lindbergh – 36 trolley to 54th Street) are getting a little lonely. Now is the time to get over there and get yourself a bough, wreath, freshly cut evergreen or centerpiece. The sale is over at 3 p.m. today. All proceeds benefit the Garden’s horticulture and community programs.
