Adopt-a-Cat: Lucky

Posted on 29 May 2012 by WPL

Neighbor Tara is looking for a permanent home for her foster cat Lucky who has been living with her since last July. Lucky is a big kitty, around 16 lbs. He is an excellent mouser and spider killer, and he loves to play with the laser mouse and catnip fish. He wants company, not necessarily cuddling, but the same room is good. The same lap is better. A good scratch under his chin makes his day. He is quite a character and is very opinionated.

Lucky needs a very special owner. When he came to live with Tara he needed to learn that people wouldn’t hurt him. Sudden movements like reaching down to pet him on the head made him duck and cower. Anticipating being hit, he would come back fighting. For the first months Tara couldn’t pick him up. He would turn into an angry, yowling, hissing, critter. Now she can hold him on her shoulder and he purrs and gives kisses.

Lucky needs someone patient, kind but firm. He probably should not go into a house with other pets or young children. For the right person Lucky will be the perfect pet. He is about nine years old, has a recent rabies shot and is in good health. If you’re interested in adopting Lucky, please email Tara at: inkfishpress@mail.com

Adopt-a-Cat: Charlie

Posted on 01 May 2012 by WPL

Charlie is available for adoption through City Kitties. She is 2-3 years old. Charlie was rescued by a concerned volunteer who didn’t want to see this sweet kitty on the streets this winter. Originally the rescuer thought Charlie was a boy, but a close look proved she was a girl, but the name stuck anyway.

Charlie always likes to be in the same room as people, so you won’t be lonely. She doesn’t like to be picked up, but will snuggle on the couch, in bed, on your lap, etc. like a champ! Charlie loves to play with fuzzy toys and will scurry after a laser pointer all day long. What she is really looking for is a quiet home with humans to give her lots of pets, food and chin scratches.

She gets along with other cats, but she would do best in a house with her people to herself. Charlie is spayed/neutered, FIV/FeLV negative, FVRCP and rabies vaccinated, uses the litterbox, and was treated for fleas and parasites as needed. To fill out an adoption application, go here. Adopt-a-Cat: Juniper (aka Butterball)

Posted on 10 April 2012 by WPL

This week’s featured cat is Juniper. She’s available for adoption through Project Meow and is currently at Baltimore Pet Shoppe (4532 Baltimore Ave). Juniper’s foster mom sometimes calls her Butterball because she has a bright orange silky coat of fur (a rare color for a female), and also because she loves getting tummy rubs and simply melts if someone scratches her behind her ears.

Juniper was living on a lady’s porch since last summer, and she lost her litter of kittens, so she might seem shy and timid at first. But she warms up immediately when someone shows her love and affection. She can often be found snuggled into the massive folds of fluffy blankets, or cozying up against her new parent.

Juniper would really like to find a permanent home with a mommy or daddy that can welcome her into their family, because she so desperately wants to be a part of one! Please email projectmeowadoptions@gmail.com for an application or stop by Baltimore Pet Shoppe to fill one out (and to meet Juniper!).

Adopt-a-Cat: LiLi

Posted on 27 March 2012 by WPL

This week’s featured cat is LiLi. She’s available for adoption through City Kitties.

LiLi showed up on a rescuer’s doorstep a week after a winter blizzard looking half-dead. She was very thin, her paws were burned from road salt, and she was missing clumps of fur all over her body. Once in foster care, her fur grew back, she gained several pounds, and her personality came shining through. She is now a beautiful tuxedo kitty with big, round eyes that make her look like a cartoon character!

Despite her rough start in life, LiLi is affectionate, loving, and playful. She really loves to cuddle and has a funny personality. She enjoys following her humans around, meowing at them occasionally for attention. LiLi is just thrilled to be inside with an endless supply of food, water, and love. LiLi has lived with another kitty in her foster home, but she would prefer to be an only cat. She would make a fantastic companion to someone looking for a single pet to share their days with.

While in foster care, LiLi developed urinary crystals, an issue common to young female cats. Thanks to her special food, she’s all better now and is a happy and healthy kitty! She uses the litterbox like a champ and never has accidents. She will need to be on prescription wet food for the rest of her life. City Kitties will provide 6 month supply of food. Please don’t let this minor medical issue prevent you from adopting this sweet girl! She deserves a forever home and would make an excellent companion for just about anybody.

LiLi is spayed, FIV/FeLV negative, vaccinated (FVRCP and rabies), uses her litterbox, and has been tested/treated for fleas and parasites as needed. To contact City Kitties, visit this page.

Two cats available for adoption

Posted on 20 March 2012 by WPL

Reader Evi rescued this male cat and after a good long trial she found that he doesn’t get along with her eldest male cat and that she has to find him a better home. He is updated on all his shots, neutered and FIV and Feline Leukemia negative. He is not declawed and is tick, flea and parasite free.

He’s very friendly, agile and super human-oriented. He would probably do best in a house with no other male cats. He is about one and a half years old. He might do well as an indoor/outdoor cat in a safe area, since he has spent some time outside.

There is a small adoption fee and all applicants will be screened. Evi can provide a litter box and quality cat food to get you started.

Would any of you fellow cat lovers like to take a healthy, adorable and cuddly cat in? If yes, contact Evi at evinumen [at] gmail.com.

Lucky Night is available for adoption through Project Meow. He loves to cuddle and be held like a baby. He has a velvety soft coat that you’ll love to pet. For playtime, he likes string toys, catnip, and chasing balls, and then lounging on anything soft that he can find.

This cat needs a forever home that will love and appreciate his sweet docile nature and his fondness for talking. And also appreciate that he’s not a kitten anymore – he’s still young, just not a baby. His old family got rid of him when he was no longer a kitten.

Lucky Knight is neutered, up to date on age-appropriate shots, FIV and FeLV negative, dewormed, and flea free.

Please email projectmeowadoptions [at] gmail.com for an application, or you can fill one out at Baltimore Pet Shoppe, where Lucky Night is currently located.

Adopt Roy and Chewy – brother and sister cats

Posted on 07 March 2012 by WPL

This week’s featured adoptable cats are Chewy and Roy.

West Philly resident Gina and her roommates have been taking care of the cats, but they are all going to graduate next month and need to find them a new home.

Roy and Chewy are brother and sister black and white cats. They are medium sized, very lovable, neutered, with updated shots, and can be adopted together or separately. They were victims of a break in at their old home, so they get very scared of plastic bags and loud banging noises. They are good with other animals and kids as long as you give them a week or so to get used to their new surroundings.

Here are their photos:
