Editor’s Note: After a break, we’re resuming our posts about rescued cats and kittens available for adoption and other posts provided by Project MEOW, a volunteer-run organization that helps control West Philly’s stray and feral cat population through their TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program and also has a rescued cat foster program. This story showcases that there is a special home for every cat.
Once upon a time a kitten named Newt was rescued in West Philly. Very typical orange boy lover… and also NOT! You see, Newt is one of those cats who must go outside to keep his behavior more moderate or else the demons take hold.
Diagnosed with Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome he became unpredictable, and even with medication he was biting and clawing the humans. Several adoptions failed because of his behavior. Fast forward to today, where Newt enjoys both the indoor life and outdoor life with his new human who understands his quirks.
He is fully vetted, microchipped and a neighborhood escort, walking folks to the bus stop when the mood strikes. Over time he might moderate his behavior and enjoy being indoors more and more. But for now, Newt is well, a neighborhood fixture, ambassador of good will and all around happy guy. Continue Reading

This week’s featured adoptable cat is Anabel, an adult female medium-sized “tuxedo” cat.
Anabel is a professional cuddler – she can be found on or near you at all times. She doesn’t have many demands, just needs you to cuddle her immediately upon getting home. She will also require the use of your lap, the space by your pillow, and your back or stomach when you lie down.
You must regularly scratch the spot between her front legs but not down any further! Also, she must purr in your ear at least ten minutes daily. If you are sad or feeling ill, she’ll find a place near you and stay there until you feel better. Finally, your undivided attention is required, so please don’t bring any other cats around. She plans on returning the favor, as she’ll be following you to any room and sleeping with you every night. But that is all. See? Anabel is not a diva!
Anabel prefers to be in a one-cat home.
She is spayed, FeLV and FIV negative, current with shots, treated for fleas and worms, and is litter box trained.

This week’s featured adoptable cat is Gracie, a young female domestic short-hair medium-size cat.
Gracie’s personality type is Private Investigator. Her curiosity knows no bounds; she is always finding the hidden nooks and corners of your home. Gracie is also a part-time lover; she wants to be in the same room but gimme some space!
Classically attired in a black and white tuxedo this lady is all set for your next formal affair. In true formal fashion though she does require monogamy. No other cats, please. Other humans will be considered with an interview.
Gracie is an independent lady and quite serious about her responsibilities, however, don’t be fooled. With a little persuading of her heart, this girl opens up and just starts talking and talking and talking and then when truly at ease her freak flag flies and she bounces around like a kitten.
Gracie is neutered, FeLV and FIV negative, current with shots, treated for fleas and worms, and is litter box trained.
This cat is being fostered through the partnership of Project MEOW and PAWS.
To adopt Gracie, please complete and return a PAWS adoption application. It is available at the Baltimore Pet Shoppe (4532 Baltimore Ave.), or online at http://tinyurl.com/PMAdoptionApp. Application and adoption fee ($50.00) applies. Please use my number A30008400 when applying to adopt this cat.

This week’s featured adoptable cat is Sundae, a young female domestic medium-hair.
Personality Types: 1. Private Investigator: Sundae’s curiosity knows no bounds. She is always finding the hidden nooks and corners of your home. 2. Professional Cuddler: she can be found on or near you at all times.
Sundae is a very curious cat. When you open your closet or the door to another room, you can rest assured she will be at your heels ready to explore this interesting new space. If you open your window, make sure it has a screen because she’ll jump right up to the windowsill to stare out at the streets and listen to the cars and people outside.
She’ll start off kind of shy but will quickly warm up to you. Sundae loves being pet and will jump on the table next to you if you’re concentrating on your coffee or computer and demand attention! She also enjoys climbing onto the back of the chair you’re sitting on and nuzzling you from behind.
Occasionally, she’ll go on to your lap. Of course, she’ll let you know when she’s had enough with petting or playing with a little swipe or nip. Continue Reading

“Backpack” is available for adoption.
This week’s featured adoptable cat is Backpack, a domestic short-haired adult female cat.
Backpack is an enigma wrapped in a riddle enveloped in a mystery. She is the manic pixie dream girl of cats, who doesn’t feel compelled to explain the quirky things she does. For instance, she’s very diligent about keeping her talons diamond-sharp despite the fact that her front paws are declawed. She likes to play chase but only at a medium rate of speed. She also likes to lie on her back and knead the air…
If you’re looking for a sweet but eccentric cat who likes lots of attention (and wants to be the only cat in the house) and will leave you scratching your head, Backpack is the girl for you.
Backpack is spayed, FeLV and FIV negative, current with shots, treated for fleas and worms, and is litter box trained.
To adopt this cat please complete and return a PAWS adoption application. It is available at the Baltimore Pet Shoppe (4532 Baltimore Ave.), or online. Application and adoption fee ($50.00) applies. Please use number A29675756 when applying to adopt this cat.
