This week’s featured cat is Jax, an adorable 12-14-week-old tuxedo kitten. Jax is currently in the window at Baltimore Pet Shoppe (4532 Baltimore Ave).
This kitten started life rough (in a weed-choked lot in West Philly), but despite that, is a super sweet, loving and trusting little guy. He has a mellow temperament, loves to play with toys, and is always happy to have his belly rubbed or be held for a cuddle.
Jax is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and flea treated. If you would like to meet him please stop by Baltimore Pet Shoppe, where Jax will stay for one more week. He is available for adoption through Project M.E.O.W. To request an online adoption application please email: projectmeowadoptions [at] gmail.com.

This week’s featured cat is Norton, a beautiful young adult cat (one-two years old).
Norton came to City Kitties after a hard life on the streets. Initially shy and easily scared, he’s now an energetic and fiercely devoted cat who loves attention from his people. He loves having his coat brushed and playing with toys, and catnip makes him the silliest thing on four legs. All he needs is an owner who likes him hopping on the bed at night.
Norton is neutered, FIV/FeLV negative, and has been tested/treated for fleas/parasites as needed.
If you would like to meet him please fill out an adoption application with City Kitties. The adoption process involves an application, reference check, and a visit to your home at the time of adoption. Adoption fee is $85 to help subsidize the cost of veterinary care. To ask a specific question about Norton please use this contact form.

Update (10/12/11): Sashu has been adopted!
This week’s featured cat is Sashu, an 8-month-old calico kitten. Sashu is currently being fostered through the PSPCA by West Philly resident Chris who is trying to find a good home for her.
Sashu is an incredibly affectionate kitten and is very very people oriented. Although she is young, she uses her litter box like a pro. She loves attention and is constantly purring. She would adapt very well to any situation given her outgoing personality. She was just spayed and is up to date on her vaccines.
Please contact Chris at christopher.torre [at] gmail.com if you would like to meet her. He lives at 40th and Pine, and will be happy to meet you somewhere if that is more convenient for you.

Our readers Zem and Jakey, who live at 49th and Springfield, found these adorable kittens in the hurricane and are trying to adopt them out.
“Once poor bedraggled kittens, these four little boys have become incredibly playful and snugglable. They will bound about, chasing and pouncing on one another and on their toys, and then, collapse in a purring kitten pile. They love being held and will sit on your shoulders if you let them. They are extremely social and get along well together, adopt them in pairs, or on their own. They want your love!”

This week’s featured cat is Mr. Cat. Reader Lisa is looking for a new home for him. Here’s what she wrote us:
“Two years ago a cat started living in my backyard. We could tell he used to be someone’s cat since he had a collar (tag removed) was fixed and quite affectionate, probably abandoned by students. We put flyers up to no avail. During the winter I caved in and gave him some food. For the next two years I gave him food every day or two. I never brought him inside, just gave him food since he never seemed to leave the yard.
Unfortunately last month I left West Philly for less greener pastures. I no longer have a backyard in which to keep him. He is currently living on my 5×5 patio. Since it is close quarters on this side of town I really need to find him a home and get him outside.
We took him to PAWS where they said he was super friendly and affectionate. Easily adoptable if I could get one of the groups to accept him (they are all full) he is neutered, adult and is Negative for FeLV.
I call him Mr. Cat. If someone adopts him I will gladly take him for a vet visit to the vet of their choice, and will provide some food and the crate I used for transport. He is really a sweet guy and its time we got him back inside.”
If you want to meet Mr. Cat or have questions, email Lisa at: thecaretaker [at] gmail.com

This week’s featured cat is Sophia. She’s currently in the window at Baltimore Pet Shoppe. She is a pretty young cat who nevertheless had kittens by the time she was picked up by someone who took her to the Cat Doctor (a teen mom statistic!).
Sophia is very petite and sweet, she loves to tell her foster mom and visitors how much she adores them. She’s not shy but not aggressive, and enjoys string and her catnip mouse — and especially the catnip mouse attached to string. She is a tabby but her fur looks more like some exotic wood grain, plus she has cool-looking Cleopatra lines around her eyes.
Her foster mom hasn’t witnessed her with any other cats but since she is good-natured and playful, she may benefit from being with other cats, especially youngsters. She’s also a good groomer and has tidy litter box habits.
Sophia is about one year old, spayed, FIV/FeLV negative, FVRCP and rabies vaccinated, received a fecal exam to test for parasites, and was treated for fleas and parasites as needed.
If you want to meet Sophia, stop by Baltimore Pet Shoppe (4532 Baltimore Ave.). For more information about the adoption process and to fill out an application visit the City Kitties’ website, www.citykitties.org. Adoption fee is $85 to help subsidize the cost of veterinary care.
