NO! The Rape Documentary by Aishah Shahidah Simmons (USA, 2006, 94 min)
Produced and directed over eleven years by Aishah Shahidah Simmons, NO! broke taboos that hid the rape and sexual assault of Black women in Black communities. The film brought together leading Black scholars, theologians, artists, activists, and survivors to break silences and commit themselves to reshape patriarchal cultures of violence against women and queer communities. FILMMAKERS IN PERSON

This special anniversary presentation of NO! will be the first time many on-screen participants and the filmmakers will be together and participate in the Q&A after the screening. This is the first of three events in Philadelphia of #FromNO2Love: Black Feminist Centered Forum on Disrupting Sexual Violence.

UCD releases more details for 2019 Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll, Dining Days and other summer events

University City District has released dates and more details for their signature summer events.

Baltimore Avenue Dollar StrollThe Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll will return on Thursday, June 6 and Thursday, Sept. 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This popular event showcases local businesses with a chance to try their signature items and offerings – for just $1! The event also provides an opportunity for new businesses to introduce themselves to the community. As the event has grown over the years, more community vendors have joined it. UCD is now also offering smaller vendors an opportunity to sell food and merchandise at the event after they obtain a permit through the Philadelphia Health Department. Read more about participating vendors for the June 6th Dollar Stroll here. Get rid of hazardous waste safely this Saturday in West Philly

On Saturday, May 11, the Streets Department will be holding a special event in West Philly for those who want to get rid of hazardous waste safely. If you have any used or unwanted toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive products (check the label), you may bring them to the 1st District Highway Yard at 4800 Parkside Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday.

Some of the items accepted at this hazardous waste drop-off event are:

– antifreeze
– moth balls
– pesticide
– gasoline
– oil-based paints
– spray paints
– acids
