How does current zoning impact the Garden Court neighborhood? Learn more this Thursday

Posted on 14 March 2018 by WestPhillyLocal.com

Garden Court residents are invited this Thursday, March 15 to the neighborhood association’s (GCCA) general meeting where they can learn more about zoning and how it impacts their neighborhood.

The meeting will include a special presentation by Martine DeCamp, senior planner for the City of Philadelphia assigned to University City and Southwest Philadelphia, who will share an overview of the city’s zoning process. You can also learn about how you can get involved and ask your most pressing zoning questions. Refreshments will be provided.

The meeting will be held at Mosaic Community Church (123 S. 51st St.) from 7 p.m. until approximately 8:30 p.m.

It’s worth noting that a recent proposal by the Post Brothers to build a 243-unit addition to Garden Court Plaza at 4701 Pine St. (see rendering) was rejected by the city for not conforming to the current zoning code (CMX-2) because of its height, density and open space and required a special variance. You can read more about this project here and here.

ReAnimator Coffee to open in Garden Court Plaza next month

Posted on 17 October 2017 by ranafayez

After more than a year’s wait amidst a saturated coffee market in West Philly, a Kensington coffee shop, ReAnimator Coffee, is indeed expanding into Garden Court on the 4700 block of Pine Street. With a planned opening in mid-November, ReAnimator will join the ranks of independent coffee shops like The Satellite Cafe, Coffee Market, Green Line Cafe, Milk and Honey, United by Blue and others. ReAnimator Coffee’s new location will be based out of Garden Court Plaza apartments, a complex that was recently acquired by the Post Brothers.

ReAnimator co-founder Mark Capriotti and his business partner Mark Corpus both believe that the area calls for a brick and mortar shop because bulk coffee bean sales have been doing well at ReAnimator supplier Mariposa Food Co-op; they both also believe they have something new to introduce to the area.  Continue Reading

Garden Court Plaza’s Dreaming Tree Music changes name, moves to 42nd and Chestnut

Posted on 23 February 2017 by WestPhillyLocal.com

Some of you may be wondering what happened to the businesses that used to occupy the ground floor of Garden Court Plaza at 47th and Pine. The ground-floor retail space is currently closed for renovation, and after its completion, some of the old businesses are not coming back, including Take the Lead Dance Studio and Dreaming Tree Music. The building’s new owners, The Post Brothers, said last year that they were looking into bringing some new businesses into the building, including ReAnimator Coffee (stay tuned for more information about these plans).

Here’s some good news though about Dreaming Tree Music. As of mid-January the studio has new space in West Philly – at 4145 Chestnut Street (2nd Floor) – and has reopened under a new name – Inner Rhythms Music and Therapy Center.

“In December we closed Dreaming Tree Music, hoping to find a new home. We are now excited to announce the opening of Inner Rhythms Music and Therapy Center – a new name, but our mission remains the same,” reads a message recently posted on Inner Rhythms’ Facebook page.  Continue Reading

In August 2016, the Post Brothers, the real estate company that has acquired a number of residential properties in University City in the past year, revealed their plans and renderings for the renovation of the historic Hamilton Court apartment complex at 39th and Chestnut Streets. Currently, the company is in the process of making upgrades to Hamilton Court, which was one of Philadelphia’s first apartment buildings when it was built in 1901. The renovations include the conversion of vacant ground-floor space into modern commercial retail spaces, which will be occupied by five dining establishments.

On Wednesday, the developers revealed the restaurants that signed leases for those spaces. Here they are:

Steve’s Prince of Steaks, one of Philadelphia’s most famous cheesesteak restaurant chains, has signed a lease for 2,277 square feet.  Continue Reading

ReAnimator Coffee coming to Garden Court Plaza retail space

Posted on 17 June 2016 by Mike Lyons

GardenCourtPlazaWe are starting to learn a little more about the retail that will be moving into the ground floor of the Garden Court Plaza apartment building at 47th and Pine. An official from Post Brothers, the real estate developer that acquired the building last year and announced their plans to court new retail businesses, said last night that ReAnimator Coffee, which has current locations in Fishtown and Kensington, has agreed to take one of the spots.

Post Brothers managing director Randy Hope told the Garden Court Community Association annual meeting that the firm is also “in conversation” with a “full-service restaurant.”

“One thing that I promise won’t be coming there is a 7-Eleven or something like that,” he said.

Hope did not say when ReAnimator Coffee might be moving in. We’ll keep you posted.
