Almost 100 years after the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, there are still questions and debates around the family and significance of this obscure 18th-Dynasty king. Who were his parents? How did he come to the throne? What was his relationship to his predecessor, the “heretic” king Akhenaten and his attempt to reform ancient Egyptian thought? Was his tomb originally designed for Queen Nefertiti, and could her burial be hidden behind one of its walls?
New evidence and theories have emerged in the past 15 years to suggest reasonable answers to some of these questions, as well as tantalizing hints to the others. This talk will go over the new evidence and try to clear up some of the confusion still remaining about Tut’s life and times.
