Pit bull puppy found at Warrington and Saint Bernard

August 9, 2014

pitbullpuppy

This pit bull puppy was found Friday night, around 11 p.m., near Warrington and Saint Bernard. The puppy looks to be about 4 months old and appears to be a red nose pit. The person who found him took him to the PAWS clinic and he got all his shots and dewormed. The puppy is getting along with a dog and a cat that live in the house where he’s currently staying. He’s already being potty trained and learning to walk on the leash.

The puppy doesn’t have a microchip.

If the puppy’s owner is not found he will need a new home. He can only be fostered at his current location until the owner or a new home is found. If you have any information about the owner or would like to adopt the puppy please email: avery.carter [at] gmail.com.

Adopt-a-Dog: Theo

July 23, 2014

dogTheo

Theo.

Theo is a beautiful black male pit bull terrier looking for a new home. He’s only 9 months old. He was surrendered to the local animal control last week by his owner.

What makes this dog stand out is the fact that his owner obviously loved him very much and wants to make sure he finds a loving new home. He/she wrote a detailed letter about Theo (see below) describing everything he likes, dislikes, etc. Most people who surrender a pet do not even want to fill some basic information out, according to volunteers who work at the shelter.

Theo is available for adoption or foster care.

If you’re interested in meeting Theo please note that all resident dogs and family members need to come to ACCT to meet him before he can go into foster care or be adopted. Theo will be neutered, vaccinated and chipped before going to a new home.

Here’s more information on the ACCT shelter and its hours:

Partially declawed grey & white cat found on 49th and Chester

July 15, 2014

foundgreycat

A neighbor found a very friendly grey and white cat a few days ago on her porch at 49th and Chester. The cat is declawed on his front paws and looks to be neutered.

He is pretty big and has two different colored eyes – one green and one mottled brown, which may be due to an injury. He’s very thin but was clearly once someone’s pet. He is mostly grey with dark grey stripes, a spotted white belly and white muzzle.

The neighbor is concerned that the cat may not survive outdoors without claws.

If you have any information about this cat, please contact Katie at kdericks at gmail dot com

New pet waste stations installed on 44th, 45th streets

June 30, 2014

New pet waste station on 45th St.

Dog owners who live around S 44th/45th and Pine/Spruce streets have something to be happy about. The area that lacks regular trash cans, now has two brand new pet waste stations on 44th and 45th streets between Spruce and Pine, next to the apartment buildings owned by Campus Apartments.

There was a pet waste basket on 45th Street before but it broke and was removed a few months ago. Earlier this month, we reached out to Campus Apartments to let them know about the basket, that it was broken and asked if they were responsible. We didn’t hear back, but a couple of weeks ago two new pet waste stations were installed near Campus Apartment buildings. That’s a great response! We even noticed bags in the pet waste dispenser.

Wouldn’t it be great to have more such stations installed around the neighborhoods? As part of our research for the recent trash can story, we learned that trash receptacles are a joint responsibility among community organizations, block captains, and the city. So why don’t pet waste baskets and bags fall under their responsibility as well? It would be very helpful to local dog owners and help keep our streets and sidewalks cleaner (we’re talking about responsible dog owners, of course, since there are those who don’t pick up after their dogs).

As for the pet waste stations themselves, they’re supplied by Great American Property Management Products and cost as low as $99 for the starter and $299 for the deluxe.
