West Philly onesie

We saw this on Etsy and couldn’t resist sharing it. You see the lyrics of the famous Will Smith song everywhere, but we’ve never seen them on a onesie.

Kid’s consignment sale at St. Mary’s Nursery School – Consignors wanted

May 23, 2011

West Philly Grows Again Consignment SaleWest Philly parents, here’s a great opportunity for you to get rid of your kid’s used or unwanted stuff, to help a local day care provider, and actually to earn some cash.

St. Mary’s Nursery School (3916 Locust Walk), a non-profit cooperative day care in West Philly since 1964, is holding its first annual children’s consignment sale, West Philly Grows Again. The sale will take place Saturday, June 11, but consignors are wanted now.

Here’s how it works.

– First, read the consignor guidelines and fill out a registration form.

– You’ll get an email with your consignor number and price tags for you to print out.

– You price and tag your items.

– You drop your gently used children’s items off to St Mary’s on Friday, June 10 between 5 and 8 p.m.

– Your items go on sale on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for the price that you have set. You get 25% of the price you set (up to 35% if you volunteer to work during the fundraiser). St Mary’s gets the rest.

– You come back Sunday afternoon to pick up your sale proceeds and any clothing that did not sell. You also have the option to donate what does not sell.

Sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it? And it’s also for a local cause. So click here and follow the steps described above.

Pooches and a juggler at the library

May 17, 2011

Milo, Gus and Dandie love being read to at the Blackwell Library’s children’s department. Milo and Gus will be there later today and Dandie on Saturday. (Photo from the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library Facebook page.)

Two upcoming events at the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library (125 S. 52nd St.) look super fun for kids.

Tonight kids will have a chance to read to two therapy dogs, Gus and Milo, a couple of cool West Philly hounds, at 6 p.m. in the library’s great children’s section. If you miss tonight’s reading, the calm, cool and collected corgi Dandie will be at the library on Saturday at 2 p.m.

And for something completely different, the Library will host a juggling workshop with David Smith – also known as the “One Man Side Show” – at 4 p.m. tomorrow. Smith’s juggling prowess got him an audition for America’s Got Talent and is an expert at leading hands-on workshops for the whole family.

This hunt was on

April 24, 2011

A break in yesterday’s showers gave about 25 egg hunters the chance to dash around the playground at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (3916 Locust Walk) in search of their bounty.

We were lucky to get a close-up look at the action. The slideshow below shows you what we saw.
