A Kingsessing man who fatally shot a West Philly resident outside of a University City restaurant two years ago was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday, according to reports.

Corey Gaynor, 28, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 31-year-old Timothy Cary on the early morning of April 14, 2014 outside Copabanana restaurant at 40th and Spruce. Gaynor fired at least 10 shots at close range at Cary following an argument inside the restaurant.

The Philadelphia Common Pleas Court jury deliberated 22 days before they found Gaynor guilty of the murder, and the judge sentenced him to the mandatory life in prison without parole, Philly.com reports.

Three men were shot this afternoon on the 5500 block of Cedar Avenue, near Boys’ Latin Charter School.

Police say the drive-by shooting happened at about 1 p.m.. Three men ages 28-34 were found along the street when police arrived, according to Philly.com. All three were transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital and will survive, a police source said.

Police said the men were targeted. “Those shot are known to us,” the police source said.

Police believe there were two gunmen. They were last seen in a white SUV traveling west on Pemberton Street near 55th.

Boys’ Latin Charter School was placed on temporary lockdown following the shooting. No students were injured.

A 28-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of his phone, cash and his engraved wedding ring while walking near 48th and Hazel at about 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say three young males in dark hoodies approached the man to ask the time. One of the males then brandished a black handgun and struck the victim, knocking him to the ground. The suspects, described as black males between 17 and 20 years old, took the victim’s phone, a wallet with $4 and various cards, a gym bag with headphones and sneakers, and his platinum wedding ring with the inscription “like madness” on it. They fled on foot westbound on Hazel Avenue toward 49th Street, according to police.

The victim was treated for lacerations at Presbyterian Hospital and released.

A 31-year-old man was shot multiple times and killed Wednesday night near 52nd and Pine, according to police. The shooting happened at around 11 p.m. after the victim parked his car at 52nd and Pine. Just as he got out of the car he was approached by an unknown male who opened fire at close range.

The victim was shot at least six times in his back and legs, according to police. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he died shortly after.

Police said that the victim appeared to be the intended target of the shooter.

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as 31-year-old Maurice Adside. He lived less than a block away from where he was shot. Police also detained a suspect, a 23-year-old man, who was seen fleeing the scene on foot.

More details are available on the armed robbery that took place at 41st and Pine on early Sunday morning and prompted an alert from the Division of Public Safety at Penn.

The robbery took place at around 2:30 a.m. when the victim was approached by two males with covered faces and was robbed at a gunpoint. The men took the victim’s phone and headphones and fled on foot toward 41st and Spruce.

Penn police were on the scene and patrolled the area after the robbery.

Police detained three teens Thursday evening after an alleged gunpoint robbery near 44th and Osage. The robbery was reported at around 7:40 p.m. The victim told police that he was approached by five young males, and “felt a hard object pushed into his back,” according to a police report. The teens took the victim’s phone and fled.

Plainclothes police, who were in the area, were able to catch three of the suspects, all of them 14 years old, after a chase. No firearm was found.

Police were unable to recover the cell phone, which was tracked to the area of 42nd and Haverford and then disabled, according to the report.
