This older female tabby showed up on my steps today (500 block of Melville). She has no collar and I’ve never seen her before. She is in good health and very friendly. Please call me at 215-662-0749 if you know where she lives.

Here’s a great chance to enjoy some fine locally prepared dishes for the next two weeks. Around 30 West Philly restaurants (see the full list on the flyer) are participating in the 6th annual University City Dining Days that will run from tomorrow, July 14, through July 28. You can try something new or visit your favorite location. There are options for many tastes and budgets.

Here’s how it works. Each of the participating restaurants will offer a  three-course dinner special for one of the following set prices: $15, $25 or $30. The purpose of this is to encourage folks to dine at as many locations as possible during these two weeks without the fear of going bankrupt.

Please note that the prices are for dinner only so if you want a glass of wine to go with it it will cost extra. Taxes and gratuity are not included either. Reservations should be made directly through the participating restaurant. See the menus and restaurant contact details on this page.

The University City Arts League (4226 Spruce Street) is offering 28 classes, including some new, in its second summer session.

Session II will run from August 1 through August 28 and will feature a variety of classes for adults and children alike. There will be some novelties, such as three new Capoeira Angola classes – one for adults, one for toddlers and one for parents and children together. The Capoeira Angola classes will focus on the traditional and slower roots of the exercise.

The new session also will offer a new creative dance class for 3-year-olds and a family pottery class. In addition to the new classes, the old favorites will be available as well, including Spanish conversation, yoga, Argentine tango, salsa, Flamenco, creative ballet, tai chi, modern contemporary dance, workouts, plein air drawing and ceramic jewelry.

Today’s cat is Eggroll, a young and lovely dilute torbico (tortoiseshell + calico markings). She’s about one year old. She has rather pointy ears and nose, indicating that she may have a bit of Siamese in her.

Eggroll was rescued by a social worker on a rainy day. She was wearing a flea collar that was way too big — probably because she had lost so much weight fending for herself on the streets.

She is active and playful, but enjoys affection and cuddling, too. She shares a foster home with several other cats and a small dog, and she’s always trying to get them to play.

Eggroll would do well in a home by herself or with another playful cat or dog to keep her company. She’s ready to find her forever home today.

She is spayed, FIV/FeLV negative, up to date on vaccinations, and has received flea/parasite preventative/treatment as needed.

Have you run out of ideas yet on how to entertain your kids this summer? Here’s a suggestion for you, something your little ones should enjoy. Penn Museum (3260 South Street) is offering  Summer Wonder programs for children and families on Wednesday mornings (10:30-11:30 a.m.) through August 10.

The programs feature music, dancing and other fun activities by a variety of international performers and presenters. Some of the highlights are belly dancing for the whole family, listening to world music and the folk music of yesteryear, journeying to Uganda, and discovering science through experiments.

Ziggy is a very friendly indoor-outdoor cat, mostly grey, with white markings, missing from the 4200 block of Osage.  If you have seen him (or can capture him), please contact his owner (sarah.e.lopez [at] gmail.com) and also email me back (lml3 [at] verizon.net). I don’t think he’s wearing a collar.  Possible that he’s been picked up by someone, or may be trapped inside a building/basement, or injured. -LL
