Live music is returning to University City this week with the return of the University City Summer Series. The free, monthly outdoor music series kicks off this Thursday, June 25, bringing a vibrant lineup of performances, community vibes, and local entertainment to The Lawn at uCity Square (37th and Cuthbert Streets).

Presented by University City District in partnership with the Philadelphia Music Alliance, the family-friendly events will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. once a month throughout the summer. Each event begins with a live set by DJ on Mars at 5 p.m., followed by the headlining acts taking the stage at 6:30 p.m.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic setups to enjoy the music.

The series kicks off with an electrifying performance by Johnny Showcase, a 10-piece Philadelphia-based funk-rock and psychedelic soul group (and America’s Got Talent alumni).

Thursday, July 30: Worldtown Soundsystem Collective – An energetic eight-piece live band fusing electronic dance music, global rhythms, and Philly house music culture.

Thursday, Aug. 27: Lady Alma and Band – The internationally acclaimed Philadelphia-based house music powerhouse wraps up the summer with her soul-stirring vocals and uplifting house and gospel anthems.
