Guide to SEPTA service cuts in West Philly (updated)

UPDATE (8/25/25): SEPTA has released new Fall schedules for its Bus and Metro service which reflect 20 percent service cuts that took effect on Sunday, Aug. 24. Go here for more details.

8/21/25: As you may have heard, SEPTA has announced major service cuts that will take effect this Sunday, Aug. 24 due to a lack of state transit funding. The cuts will eliminate some bus routes or shorten them and reduce the frequency by up to 20 percent. Also, a reminder that fares will increase to $2.90 per ride beginning Sept. 1.

Here’s some useful information on SEPTA service reductions for routes serving West Philadelphia.

METRO

Service on the “L” (Market-Frankford Line) will be reduced by up to 20 percent. Peak intervals will go from 6 to 8 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 6 to 8 minutes.

BUS

The following bus lines will continue but buses will run less frequently and some routes will be shortened:

21, 42: Peak intervals will go from 9 to 12 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 11 to 15 minutes.

43: Route 43 will be shortened to operate between Parkside Loop and Spring Garden Station on the Market-Frankford Line [L]. Service on Delaware and Aramingo Aves will be discontinued. Peak intervals will go from 16 to 20 minutes.

44: Route 44 service to Narberth and Gladwyne will be discontinued. Peak intervals will go from 15 to 20 minutes.

46: Peak intervals will go from 12 to 15 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 15 to 20 minutes.

52: Trips to Gladwyne will be discontinued. Peak intervals will go from 10 to 12 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 10 to 15 minutes.

63 (former “G”): Trips serving Essington Ave will be discontinued. Peak intervals will go from 8 to 10 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 12 to 15 minutes.

64: Route 64 will be realigned along Grays Ferry Ave in Grays Ferry. Peak intervals will go from 12 to 15 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 20 to 30 minutes.

65: Peak intervals will go from 10 to 12 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 18 to 25 minutes.

The following bus lines will be discontinued:

1, 30, 31.

TROLLEY

Trolley service will be reduced by up to 20 percent.

T1/Route 10:

Peak intervals will go from 8 to 9 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 10 to 12 minutes.

T2/Route 34:

Peak intervals will go from 6 to 8 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 10 to 15 minutes.

T3/Route 13:

Peak intervals will go from 5 to 6 minutes. Midday intervals will go from 10 to 15 minutes.

T4/Route 11:

Midday intervals will go from 10 to 12 minutes.

T5/Route 36:

Peak intervals will go from 5 to 6 minutes.

G/Route 15:

Peak intervals will go from 8 to 10 minutes.

    These cuts are very unfortunate. Eliminating the 30 and 31 that covers a lot of West Philly area. Either you walk to the El to get to center city or you have to walk to find connecting busses to get where you need to go. Senior Citizens are really going to hurt with these cuts.Gettung to a market or pharmacy or hospital for appts will be very difficult. At least leave the 31 in place.
