Stay alert: Several milling and paving projects underway this spring

May 8, 2025

Driving around parts of West Philly has gotten more difficult recently thanks to a number of street projects, including new milling and paving work. The city is also relocating vehicles parked on these streets.

The Streets Department is conducting milling and paving work along a number of streets over the next several weeks. The work includes milling off the old asphalt, adjusting manhole covers and then repaving.

The streets impacted by this work include:

Parts of 46th street from Market to Woodland Avenue
S. 47th between Kingsessing and Chestnut, which is part of the 47th Street Repaving and Traffic Safety Project
S. Preston- Locust to Irving
Irving- Preston to 41st
Locust- 41st to 42nd
Ludlow- 33rd to 36th
Sansom- 34th to 36th
Sansom- 37th to 38th
39th- Market to Filbert
41st- Market to Locust
Sansom- 41st to 40th
Ludlow- 41st to 44th
Sansom- 42nd to 48th

The Streets Department advises those whose cars have been towed as part of this work to contact your local Police District to determine its location.

This work along with several other Streets projects have closed or curtailed traffic on several streets this spring, including the massive 42nd Street trolley track renewal project, which is expected to finish up in mid June.
