Hope PHL MLK Day Kick-off & Sneaker Drive
4017 Lancaster Avenue
Join Hope PHL’s Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) for a day of support, resources and community empowerment in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. In partnership with Black Men Run (BMR), Hope PHL’s NAC will also host a Sneaker Drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Please donate new or gently worn sneakers.

MLK Day Clean Up at Christy Recreation Center (728 S 55th St)
Help staff to clean up and beautify West Philly’s famous recreation center. Sign up here. The event is hosted by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation in partnership with the 18th Police District.
9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Laura Sims Skate House (300 S. Cobbs Creek Pkwy)
Join the Laura Sims Skate House in partnership with the 18th Police District with the MLK Service Day improvement project. Registration is not required.
9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
MLK Day of Service at Redeemer Tabernacle Baptist Church (219 N 52nd St) + March to 40th and Lancaster
This year’s goal is to present local youth with the much needed education for health and mental care, violence, and education. Volunteers normally start out helping with breakfast and arts and craft and stay all day or leave right after the march to 40th street. Volunteers are welcome to join in the march to 40th and Lancaster Ave. to listen to MLK Day of Service speeches, then head to the Rotunda at 40th and Walnut where the youth will perform their talents about Dr. King and issues they have talked about. Join Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation for a day of giving back at Cobbs Creek Park. Registration is not required.

Dream Forward: A Mill Creek Youth Empowerment Summit
Tiffany Fletcher Recreation Center, 4700 Brown Street
The Mill Creek Advisory Council and Meg’s Tutoring in the Community are inviting local youth and families to a powerful MLK Day learning experience. Youth will learn about Black history and legacy, historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs), college preparation and pathways, military opportunities, skilled trades like plumbing, electrical, and more. Penn Reads Literacy & Children’s Art Project
Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts, 3420 Walnut Street, 6th Floor
Penn Reads Literacy & Children’s Art Project presents a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service event, “Imagine A World…..!” Children ages 3 to 8 are invited to come imagine with Penn Reads while they create and learn more about Dr. King’s vision. Young readers will be able to participate in a theatrical storytime experience (beginning at 11:30 a.m. sharp), explore the uniqueness of a university library, and even create a book to take home! Pizza and snacks will be provided. This event is part of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Symposium on Social Change. Register here.

MLK Day of Service at Malcolm X Park (52nd and Pine)
